Coffee for your Christmas?

13/12/2025

Did you know? A farmer from Surigao del Sur sold his coffee beans for Php2,150 per kilo during the 2025 Caraga Coffee Festival Coffee Auction held on December 05, 2025, at the Event Center of SM City Butuan.

This marks the first time in history that the region has recorded the highest selling price for a fine-grade Robusta coffee bean. Mr. Jaime Dolog, Jr., from San Roque, Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, who participated in the 2025 Caraga Coffee Quality Competition (CCQC)—conducted on November 17–20, 2025, at Craft Coffee Roastery, Butuan City—emerged as 1st Place with a score of 83.25%.

Characterized by flavor notes of raisins, caramel/muscovado, apple, and tropical fruits, his entry impressed the official 12 bidders at the auction, resulting in a record-breaking sale compared to last year’s highest bid of Php1,250 per kilo.

Alongside Mr. Dolog, the CCQC also recognized the Top 5 premium and fine-quality Robusta coffee beans, awarded to the following farmers:

• Gregorio Buntag, Jr., from Casiklan, Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte – 2nd Place, score 83.20, sold for Php1,550/kg;

• Timoteo Mandreza, from Simbalan, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte – 3rd Place, score 82.90, sold for Php900/kg;

• Hannah Promise Feliscuzo, from Mabog, San Roque, Bislig City, Surigao del Sur – 4th Place, score 81.35, sold for Php800/kg; and

• Bernadito Brao, from Simbalan, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte – 5th Place, score 81.15, sold for Php750/kg.

The CCQC 2025 received a total of 33 entries, nearly doubling last year’s 17 submissions. As part of the 2025 Caraga Coffee Festival, this year’s activities, particularly the Caraga Coffee Quality Competition, have truly set the bar high in the region.
