Feeling stuck with inconsistent results, here’s what I learned the hard way:

✨ A clear direct-first strategy doesn’t have to be complicated. It takes a series of intentional actions that build trust, remove friction on the guest journey, and gives guests a reason to book with you.

Start with three questions:

1️⃣ Am I showing up where guests are looking?

2️⃣ Does my reputation make booking direct the obvious choice?

3️⃣ Is every touch point; from enquiry to check-out, seamless and personal?

Answer honestly and you’ll see exactly where to focus next.

Make sure YOU collect the guest details, not the OTA.

I get it.

👉 Maybe you don’t have a website yet.

👉 Maybe a booking engine feels too complicated or expensive right now.

👉 Maybe the OTA link just felt like the quickest way to get *something* live.

But here’s the truth: if someone is searching and found your hotel on Google or on socials, that’s a warm lead, they’re already interested.

Don’t hand them straight to a third party.

Instead

📩Connect a direct email address and telephone number to your profiles.

🕔Keep hours, photos, and basic info up to date.

⚡Respond quickly to enquiries (yes, it’s manual, but it’s worth it).

This keeps you in control until you’re ready to add a website and booking engine.

Because every enquiry you handle yourself builds relationships, and keeps the commission in your pocket.
