“Imagination is more important than knowledge.” Albert Einstein.

It’s amazing what technology lets us bring to life. For me, it starts with a 10-minute voice note explaining everything I see and feel, along with references, context and clear creative direction. Then I work through it with AI until we’ve clarified the vision before we start creating. That’s when the world in my head starts coming to life.

In those little moments when I can catch my breath between work and responsibilities, I allow myself to get completely lost in my little stories. And as always, I allow each story to reveal itself. But for now, I’m off camping, because nature is where I find most of my inspiration and where my stories find clarity.

A year ago (around this time), a dragonfly flew into my house and landed on my finger.

I remember being completely mesmerised by it and its wings. I took photo after photo, just looking at the detail.

Look closely at a dragonfly's wing and you'll find an intricate network of veins and irregular shapes. Not a perfectly repeated grid, but a structure that balances strength, flexibility and extraordinary lightness.

There is mathematics in it, but there is also imperfection.

And that's what fascinated me most.

Finding these photographs again reminded me why observation is such an important part of my creative process.

Nature is full of structure. Mathematics. Repetition. Efficiency. Patterns we don't always notice until we stop and look a little closer.

 And that's where I find so much of my inspiration. In those little moments of awe. Observing what has already been created, seeing the connections, and allowing that beauty to inspire me to create and express something in my own way.

I realised I haven’t shared much of the actual work lately.

Plenty of thoughts, philosophy, humour and the occasional bit of nonsense 😅 — but behind the scenes, Oliphant Designs has been very busy making things.

Designing. Editing. Managing. Building. Developing. Finishing. Experimenting.

And posting. A LOT. 😂

There are websites being built, identities taking shape, a new children’s book nearing completion, and a completed one beginning its next journey into animation.

Looking back at the week, I had one of those moments:

So… apparently AI can do that now. 🤯

Seeing what people are already doing with ChatGPT Astra is so fu***ng tempting. I just want to drop everything and go play. 😂

But first, clients. Work. Responsibilities. All those inconvenient adult things.

Then I’m going down the rabbit hole.

The speed this technology is moving at is absolutely insane ~ and as a creative, I’m ridiculously excited to see where this goes.
