Thank you for sharing my appointment at Namibia University of Science and Technology, a proud alumni but also the most accessible university for our technology policy work where we have partnered over the years through the NBII.
Thank you that you have also reflected my work with many of my colleagues at the setting up of Internet Society Namibia Chapter as well as the work I do with colleagues at NamTshuwe Digital.
Many thanks 🙏

Appreciated 🙏

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) has appointed Nashilongo Gervasius as Director of Corporate Engagement and Internationalisation, confirming her in the role after she served in an acting capacity since July 2024.

The university said Gervasius provided leadership during her acting tenure by coordinating NUST’s corporate engagement initiatives, managing international partnerships and supporting the institution’s internationalisation strategy.

NUST said the appointment reflects continuity in a portfolio responsible for strengthening the university’s relationships with industry, government and international partners.

I recently, reverted to my once usual, reflecting on policy narratives on emerging tech and society. In this recent deposit, I wrote on regulating platforms for transportation in Namibia based on research I have been conducting and to be published soon. Amongst others, I position that “What Namibia needs is not resistance - but guidance. Smart regulation that balances innovation with fairness. Forward-looking policies that support inclusivity and progress. This is our chance to choose: lead the future, or watch it pass us by.”

Namibia is at a crossroads. The country stands between two mobility worlds - one fading, one emerging- and its next regulatory decisions will determine

Had an amazing opportunity of being profiled by Windhoek Observer for their Weekend edition, where I had a chance to reflect on my journey in media and communication and in technology policy ecosystem.
In the article, I note in the importance of finding opportunities and making the best out of them for personal and societal benefit.
From reflecting on Building the Internet Society Namibia Chapter and positioning its relevance in the Namibia internet ecosystem and building NamTshuwe Digital as a more impact driven initiative that furthers programmes designing and implementation in the technology space.

I might have missed to share that I am a sucker for Christian Rap, but got to reflect on a need for cohesive directions in technology policy amongst others.

Excited to share with you our newly released report titled: Platform://Democracy – Perspectives on Platform Power, Public Values and the Potential of Social Media Councils.

The report examines diverse models of linking private orders back to social, ethical and moral values already exist worldwide.

On this report, my colleagues and I (35 researchers from 6 continents), we looked at various advisory bodies such as media, AI and television councils in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and the American continents.

We have analyzed how these represent the public vis-à-vis private actors in areas such as media regulation, freedom of expression, minority voices and the general internet and safety online.

My chapter on page 29, digs deep in the Oversight Board’s decisions in the African context. I am interrogating for a more accessible process, emphasis on local issues to be regarded as such as and what I believe is the Mia placement of the application of universal laws by private entities into national matters.
