BREAKING: NAFDAC Seizes Counterfeit Alcoholic Beverage Packaging Materials Worth Over ₦200 Million in Aba

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) raided five shops at Old Court Road Market, Aba, Abia State, on Wednesday and uncovered counterfeit packaging materials worth over ₦200 million.

The operation, conducted following credible intelligence, uncovered counterfeit labels, corks, packs and outer packaging materials bearing the names of popular brands, including Jameson, Glenfiddich, Four Cousins, Lord’s Dry Gin, Imperial Blue, Goya Oil, Chelsea, Squadron and Seaman’s Aromatic Schnapps.

NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement operatives reportedly faced threats and resistance from traders during the operation, making it difficult to evacuate the seized materials.

The owners of the five shops were absent, and the premises were placed on hold to prevent interference with the materials remaining inside.

The Agency subsequently invited the Market Union Chairman, who pledged to secure the sealed premises and assist in identifying and presenting the shop owners to NAFDAC.

Dangote Refinery Posts ₦6.30 Trillion Profit in Nine Months as Revenue Hits ₦29.94 Trillion

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has reported a net profit of ₦6.30 trillion for the nine months ended 30 September 2026, reversing a ₦156 billion loss recorded in the same period of 2025.

Unaudited results released on 13 October showed revenue rose to ₦29.94 trillion from ₦12.24 trillion a year earlier. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) climbed to ₦7.35 trillion from ₦836 billion, while operating cash flow increased to ₦4.90 trillion. Cash holdings stood at ₦8.91 trillion, and the company moved to a net cash position of about ₦867 billion from a net debt of ₦2.30 trillion.

Chief Executive Officer David Bird attributed the performance to the successful transition from commissioning and ramp-up activities to sustained commercial operations, supported by higher refining throughput, improved reliability and stronger refining margins. The 700,000-barrel-per-day facility also benefited from elevated global product margins amid supply disruptions linked to the Iran conflict, which supported increased exports including jet fuel to Western Europe.
