For you to be observant you have to think. It allows your subconscious mind picks what you want once it comes in contact with it.

So the more attention you pay to details, the more observant you are. The more observant you are the more good ideas pop. Pay more attention to details and a lot of ideas will flood in your head.

Ever heard the common saying "show me your friends and I will know who you are" ? Yes this saying plays a big role in getting great ideas.

If your friends are mediocers then the only discussions you'd be having will be full of mediocrity. No great idea comes in the middle of low thinking or ordinary things.

If you don't have an association of people who are always thinking big, it's time to change your association. Stay more around people that are innovative and are always looking for a way out. Stay more around people that are full of positivity. Their influence would help you think of great ideas.

Social media is a great way to get new ideas.

You can go to groups or people's pages. Let's look at Facebook book for instance.

If you are looking for an idea on how to start a business. You can join 10 groups relating to start ups. You can even search on Facebook using the keywords "starting a business".

Then in people's comments you can find one or two things that is relating to the type of business you can start.

Utilise social media to the fullest and so many awesome ideas will come.

You might not be using the internet as much as you should.

The internet is very powerful. It gives you room to learn as much as you want.

The first place to search for an idea when you need it is on Google. Of course there are other search engines you can use.

Learn how to use this tools to your advantage. I.e type in your search box. How to get an idea. You can continue to narrow your search until you get what you want.
