Happy Feast of St Valentine to all my friends.
May God's merciful love continue to be upon us. Amen.
And may we show selfless love to humanity like St Valentine did in his own time.
Life of St Valentine:
St Valentine is a Christian saint remembered for his faith, compassion, and courage, whose life later became associated with love and devotion.
Early Life and Ministry
Saint Valentine lived in the 3rd century AD during the reign of the Roman Emperor Claudius II. He was a Christian priest (and, in some traditions, a bishop) at a time when Christianity was illegal in the Roman Empire. Valentine quietly served believers, preached the Gospel, and offered help to the poor and the persecuted.
Defender of Love and Marriage
According to tradition, Emperor Claudius II banned marriages for young soldiers, believing single men made better fighters. Valentine defied this law by secretly performing Christian marriages for couples who wished to unite in love and faith. This act of compassion and resistance made him a symbol of selfless love.
Imprisonment and Miracles
Valentine was eventually arrested for his Christian activities. While in prison, legend says he healed the blind daughter of his jailer through prayer. Before his ex*****on, he is said to have written her a farewell note signed “from your Valentine,” a phrase that inspired later Valentine traditions.
Martyrdom
Saint Valentine was executed on February 14, around the year 269 AD, for refusing to renounce his Christian faith. He died as a martyr, remaining steadfast in love for God and humanity until the end.
Legacy
Centuries later, Saint Valentine became associated with romantic love, kindness, and devotion. His feast day, Valentine’s Day, is now celebrated worldwide as a time to express love—not only romantic love, but also compassion, sacrifice, and faith.
Saint Valentine’s life reminds us that true love is courageous, self-giving, and faithful, even in the face of sufferin
