Creating Market Access for Women-Led Agricultural Collectives

My passion for creating market access for Nigerian agricultural products inspired me to establish Afrik Fair.

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit women-led collectives in Isi Ala Ngwa North, Abia State, under the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP)—a programme that empowers women through collective enterprise, skills development, and financial inclusion.

It was inspiring to meet the women producers, learn about their operations, and witness the production of pure palm oil with zero additives.

The collective has the capacity to supply up to 3,000 litres of fresh palm oil per week, creating opportunities for wholesalers, retailers, processors, and institutional buyers seeking quality, traceable Nigerian palm oil.

📍 Afrik Fair is now open for business at FO1 Market, Kubwa, Abuja.

We welcome partnerships with businesses and organizations interested in sourcing authentic Nigerian agricultural products, especially those produced by women-led collectives across Nigeria.

Together, we can create more opportunities for women producers, strengthen rural communities, and promote ethically sourced Nigerian products.

Many farmers, processors, and agricultural product sellers in Nigeria do not struggle because their products are bad.

They struggle because the market cannot see them.

At Afrik Fair, we believe visibility is one of the biggest tools for creating market access in agriculture. That is why we have created a platform where farmers, processors, aggregators, and agricultural sellers can list their products and gain more exposure to buyers, businesses, and consumers.

From hibiscus, ginger, sesame, palm oil, shea butter, spices, and other locally made products, our goal is to help agricultural businesses become more visible in both local and international markets.

When small businesses are seen, opportunities increase.
When products gain visibility, market access improves.
When farmers and processors connect with more buyers, communities grow stronger.

Nigeria has quality agricultural products.
What many producers need is better visibility and stronger market connections.

If you are a farmer, processor, cooperative, or agricultural product seller looking for more visibility for your products, Afrik Fair is building a space for you.

The world is making billions from shea butter.

Nigeria is supplying the shea.

But we are not making the money.

Global demand keeps rising because of:
✔ Natural skincare
✔ Clean beauty products
✔ Organic cosmetics
✔ Haircare formulations

The painful part?

Nigeria produces nearly 40% of the world’s shea supply… yet earns less than 1% of the estimated $6.5 billion global shea industry.

Why?

Because most of our shea still leaves as raw nuts.

Meanwhile, other countries process, package, brand, and make the real profits.

That is why the Federal Government banned raw shea nut exports in 2025 and has now extended the ban until February 2027.

But let’s be honest…

A ban alone will not build a global shea industry.

The women picking shea nuts need support.
Processors need modern equipment.
Factories need better infrastructure.
Exporters need funding, training, and market access.

If Nigeria truly wants to compete globally, we must move beyond exporting raw materials.

We must build value here at home.

Because shea is more than a commodity.

It is jobs.
It is women's empowerment.
It is rural development.
It is a global opportunity sitting in our hands.

The real question is:

👉 Will Nigeria finally build a shea industry that can compete with the world?

The Way Our Grandmothers Made It

Before modern factories and refined oils, there was a method—slow, intentional, and deeply rooted in tradition.

Black Palm Kernel Oil, made the grandmother's way.

In many Nigerian communities, this oil is carefully processed using age-old techniques that preserve its natural strength, rich color, and full benefits. No shortcuts. No over-processing. Just time, experience, and knowledge passed down through generations.

This is why it remains highly valued for:
– Deep skin nourishment
– Hair care formulations
– Natural and organic beauty products

For buyers and brands in the USA and UK looking for authenticity, this is more than just oil.
It’s heritage. It’s quality. It’s a story your customers can connect with.

We work directly with smallholder producers who still follow these traditional methods—ensuring every batch reflects true origin and care.

Bulk supply available for export.

WEEKEND WRAP-UP
3 NIGERIAN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS WITH STRONG LOCAL & GLOBAL MARKET OPPORTUNITIES

Nigeria’s agricultural products are gaining strong demand across both local industries and global markets. This week, we highlight three key commodities driving real trade opportunities.

HIBISCUS FLOWER

Nigeria remains a leading global supplier, with strong demand across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America.

At the same time, local industries in Nigeria are increasingly using hibiscus in beverages, herbal products, and wellness solutions.

The global hibiscus extract market is valued at $69.9 million in 2025 and projected to reach $132.3 million by 2033 — Market Data Forecast.

Key drivers: herbal teas, natural drinks, food colouring, cosmetics, wellness products.

SHEA BUTTER

Nigeria produces nearly 40% of global shea nuts, yet much of the value is still processed outside the country.

Demand is strong locally and globally across skincare, cosmetics, soap, pharmaceutical, and food industries.

The global shea butter market is valued at $2.41 billion in 2024 and projected to reach $3.75 billion by 2030 — Grand View Research.

Key drivers: natural skincare, ethical sourcing, African beauty products, and premium cosmetics.

Key insight: The real opportunity is moving from raw shea nuts to value-added Nigerian shea butter products.

PALM OIL & DERIVATIVES

Palm oil remains one of Nigeria’s most strategic agricultural commodities, serving multiple industries locally and globally.

It supports food production, soap manufacturing, cosmetics, and industrial applications.

The global palm oil market is valued at $75.5 billion in 2025 and projected to exceed $113.9 billion by 2035 — Grand View Research.

Key drivers: food processing, detergents, personal care, cosmetics, industrial use.

FINAL TAKEAWAY

Nigeria’s agricultural opportunity is no longer just about production.

The real value lies in:
✔ Processing
✔ Standardization
✔ Certification
✔ Packaging
✔ Strong global branding

At Afrik Fair, we continue to connect ethical Nigerian agricultural products to both local demand and global markets, unlocking real value from origin to consumption.
