Looking at Nigeria's history, it is difficult to find an administration that has pursued economic reforms and policy-driven governance with the level of determination seen under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration. This explains why some elements within the opposition appear unsettled, often politicizing every challenge facing the nation rather than supporting efforts aimed at national development.
The issue of insecurity also raises important questions about governance at the state level. Security is a shared responsibility. While the Federal Government plays a leading role, state governments must also strengthen intelligence gathering, community policing initiatives, and grassroots security structures within their jurisdictions. It is concerning that many governors rush to Abuja whenever challenges arise instead of fully utilizing the powers and resources available to them.
Despite inheriting significant economic challenges, the Tinubu administration has recorded notable achievements, including the removal of fuel subsidies to reduce fiscal burdens, the unification of the foreign exchange market, increased investments in infrastructure, the launch of the student loan programme to expand access to higher education, the implementation of policies aimed at attracting foreign investment, and efforts to improve revenue generation for states and the Federal Government.
While challenges remain, reforms of this magnitude often require time before their full benefits are felt. With cooperation among all levels of government and continued support from citizens, Nigeria has the potential to emerge stronger, more prosperous, and more secure.
Nigeria will succeed.
