THERE WAS A TIME I HAD NO MATHEMATICS TEACHER
Yes, you read that correctly.
Growing up in Lagos, my school had no Mathematics teacher. Instead of giving up, two classmates and I picked up our textbooks and began teaching ourselves. Whenever we got stuck, we worked backwards from the answers until we understood the concepts.
That experience taught me something I have never forgotten:
Every student can understand Mathematics when they are taught with patience, clarity, and the right approach.
Ironically, I never planned to become a Mathematics teacher.
My dream was to study Accounting. But life had other plans. After my JAMB examination, I was offered admission to study Mathematics Education instead.
At first, I accepted reluctantly.
But the moment I started teaching, everything changed.
I saw students who were afraid of Mathematics begin to smile because they finally understood it. I watched confidence replace fear, and poor performance turn into excellent results.
That was when I realized teaching wasn't just a profession for me—it was my calling.
During my NYSC in Ilesha, Osun State, the proprietor of the school said something I will never forget:
> "You were not called to accounting. You were born to teach."
Those words have stayed with me ever since.
Today, I don't just teach Mathematics.
I help students:
✔️ Understand difficult concepts in simple ways.
✔️ Build confidence in solving problems.
✔️ Develop logical thinking skills.
✔️ Prepare for examinations without fear.
Nothing brings me more joy than seeing students succeed.
One of my students recently sent me this message:
> "Good morning Mr. Peter 😁 I got my Mathematics result and I got an A! Thank you so much, sir. You are an amazing teacher. May God continue to bless you."
A parent also wrote to me:
> "You have been much more than a teacher. Your patience, guidance, support, and encouragement have helped shape our daughter. We will always be grateful for the impact you have made in her l
