Congratulations to , a member organization of Akanka’s community, on commencing the journey towards fixing the extremely poor foundational literacy and numeracy of African children 🎉
This began with the launch of their scorecard - a tool to identify specific interventions that can be carried out across Africa. Currently, 9 out of 10 children on the African continent are unable to read a simple sentence, by the age of ten and this is what aims to tackle.
“We can take full ownership to improve foundational literacy & numeracy. We wanted a process where the continent can monitor its own progress on this important issue.“ said , the founder of HCA at the launch.
Author Chimmanda Adichie also spoke at the launch, reflecting that “Education is what made me possible. My primary school was a springboard for me to get where I am now. Every African child deserves that type of foundation”.
As Jakaya Kikwete, the Former President of Tanzania and Board Chair for said during the launch, “Building a more peaceful and prosperous Africa requires a determined and ambitious focus on learning for all children”.
When we can guarantee fundamental education for African children, we give them a clear path to a sense of purpose and value. It’s how we help create Heaven on Earth for these children - and for us all ❤️🧒🏾
