The Edo state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged Governor Adams Oshiomhole to pay outstanding salary arrears, pensions and other entitlements of workers before increasing minimum wage. Oshiomhole had recently increased the minimum wage of workers in the state from 18,000 naira to 25,000 naira. State chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, in a press statement issued on Monday, described the minimum wage increment as a Greek gift and one that was hasty. [ 180 more words. ]

Edo State Governor Adams Oshimole on Sunday announced the increment of the National Minimum Wage from N18,000 to N25, 000 with immediate effect, for employees in the State Public Service. He also promised prompt payment of outstanding arrears of salary to the staff of Local Government Councils in the state. Oshiomhole who made the announcement on Sunday at the grand finale of activities to mark the 2016 Workers Day, said that plans had also been concluded to pay staff of Egor Local Government Council who were being owned 13 months arrears of salary, within the next two weeks. The Adams Oshiomole led Edo State Government has warned owners/drivers of all unpainted commercial vehicles who are yet to comply with the approved colors of yellow on fire-red in the state to immediately remove them from the road or be forced to do so by the Ministry of Transport in conjunction with other security agencies. This was issued in a government statement by Major Lawrence Loye (rtd), Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, for the Commissioner, and made available to the general public also explained that operators/drivers who continue to violate Government directive on the matter shall be prosecuted in a court of competent jurisdiction set up for that purpose.
