Are you an undergraduate in the department of Biological Sciences? If yes these are some basic things you need to know before you graduate:
1. Cell structure and function: Understanding the components of a cell, such as the nucleus, mitochondria, and cell membrane, and their roles in cellular processes.
2. Evolution and natural selection: Knowledge of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution, how species adapt and change over time, and the mechanisms of natural selection.
3. Genetics: Understanding the basics of heredity, including Mendel's laws, DNA structure and replication, and gene expression.
4. Biomolecules: Familiarity with the structure and function of biological molecules such as carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids.
5. Cellular respiration and photosynthesis: Understanding how cells generate energy through cellular respiration and how plants produce energy through photosynthesis.
6. Ecosystems and biodiversity: Knowledge of the interactions between living organisms and their environments, including ecosystems, food chains, and biodiversity.
7. Human body systems: Understanding the structure and function of the human body's systems, such as the circulatory, nervous, and digestive systems.
8. Microbiology: Familiarity with the basics of microbiology, including the structure and function of microorganisms, such as bacteria and viruses.
9. Molecular biology: Understanding the techniques and principles of molecular biology, including DNA cloning, PCR, and gene sequencing.
10. Biostatistics and research methods: Knowledge of statistical analysis and research methods in biology, including experimental design and data interpretation.
11. Biochemistry: Understanding the chemical processes that occur within living organisms, including metabolic pathways and enzyme function.
12. Immunology: Familiarity with the basics of immunology, including the immune system's structure and function, and how it responds to pathogens and disease.
