“Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic was established through the efforts of a Gokana son, yet no administrative block is named after any Gokana indigene. Gokana resources should be meant for the Gokana people,” — Deenor Lucky, President, MOSOGP.

We ask, is this the voice of unity and create development or is just creating awareness?

PRESS STATEMENT

Chairman of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW), Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, has sent his warm congratulations to KAGOTE, the apex socio-cultural umbrella body of the Ogoni ethnic nationality, and the President-General of the group, Chief Leesi Maol, on the successful inauguration of its new Executive Committee.

The Senator, in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Parry Saroh Benson, described the newly sworn-in Executive Committee members as a formidable team capable of redefining the core essence of the body as established by its forebears.

Abe described Chief Leesi Maol as an entrepreneur of no mean repute, a philanthropist, and a visionary leader whose leadership qualities will enhance the programmes and overall progress of the Ogoni people.

The Senator, a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), and Chairman designate of Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission ( NUPRC), thanked the Ogoni people for electing men well suited for sustainable development to pilot the affairs of KAGOTE—an acronym for Khana, Gokana, Tai, and Eleme.

He said, “This milestone reflects strong leadership, unity, and a shared commitment to progress.

“It is our prayer that the new Exco will serve with wisdom, integrity, and dedication, with the hope that this new chapter will bring growth, stability, and meaningful achievements for the entire Ogoni ethnic nationality.

“Wishing you every success as you lead forward,” he added.

The gesture from Khana council boss is applaudable...this is what the society need to aid our developing community.

But Food for Thought....
1. Isn't the state government taking care of free education
2. Isn't the state government paying for external exam like Waec/Neco... if they do, how is the council still paying for same thing...Thinking out loud (Tol)

While we appreciate the Vice Chancellor and the entire management of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Sakpenwa, for honouring the legacy of the late Ken Saro Wiwa by erecting a portrait, we believe this gesture would be more impactful if accompanied by educational initiatives that impart knowledge about his efforts and history to the students, particularly his remarkable contributions as a leading environmental activist. At the same time, I respectfully call upon the University to rectify the portrait, as it does not bear a resemblance to Ken Saro Wiwa. As a reputable institution, this oversight carries significant negative connotations. Notably, Rivers State boasts talented artists, and there are accurately crafted portraits of Ken Saro Wiwa in other locations that serve as exemplary models. Therefore, we urge the University management to correct the portrait.
Thanks

I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all our supporters for a highly successful protest and campaign on Saturday, 31st January 2026. The campaign is designed to be a progressive program focused on the following key areas:
1) A review of the Federal Government's systems approach to oil resumption in Ogoni, as the current approach is not community-friendly and may cause further damage if continued.
2) A thorough review of the Ogoni Bill of Rights, a straightforward document that guarantees transparency, confidence, and trust, as a unified document endorsed by the people, centered on state creation.
3) Accountability for the 300 million dollars compensation.
4) A review and evaluation of the Clean-up project by HYPREP under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment.
5) A halt to oil resumption in Lekuma, Oloko, and other communities in Tai LGA, as we continue to engage in dialogue.
Please join us tomorrow on ADBN Television on DStv Channel 258 and Star Times 140 at 12 noon.
We will also be engaging with media publications from our base in Lagos State. Another major event will be launched in Abuja in less than a week from now; the date, time, and venue will be announced shortly.
Thank you.
