MAUNDY THURSDAY: THE LAST SUPPER

Gospel Reading: John 13:1-15
It was before the festival of the Passover, and Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to pass from this world to the Father. He had always loved those who were his in the world, but now he showed how perfect his love was.

They were at supper, and the devil had already put it into the mind of Judas Iscariot son of Simon, to betray him. Jesus knew that the Father had put everything into his hands, and that he had come from God and was returning to God, and he got up from table, removed his outer garment and, taking a towel, wrapped it round his waist; he then poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel he was wearing.

He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, ‘Lord, are you going to wash my feet?’ Jesus answered, ‘At the moment you do not know what I am doing, but later you will understand.’ ‘Never!’ said Peter ‘You shall never wash my feet.’ Jesus replied, ‘If I do not wash you, you can have nothing in common with me.’ ‘Then, Lord,’ said Simon Peter ‘not only my feet, but my hands and my head as well!’ Jesus said, ‘No one who has taken a bath needs washing, he is clean all over. You too are clean, though not all of you are.’ He knew who was going to betray him, that was why he said, ‘though not all of you are.’

When he had washed their feet and put on his clothes again he went back to the table. ‘Do you understand’ he said ‘what I have done to you? You call me Master and Lord, and rightly; so I am. If I, then, the Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you should wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example so that you may copy what I have done to you.’

Prayer:
Grant, almighty God,
that, just as we are renewed
by the Supper of your Son in this present age,
so we may enjoy his banquet for all eternity.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

𝟵 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗣𝗔𝗟𝗠/𝗣𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗬 ❤️🙏

1. The day is called both “Palm Sunday” and “Passion Sunday.” Palm because it commemorates Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, when the crowd had palm branches (John 12:13). The Passion Sunday because Passion narrative is read on this day.

2. The Holy Mass begins at the entrance of the Church or a place designated for the blessing of Palms then procession into the Church.

3. In the absence of Palm branches, Other forms of greenery can also be used. But Palm branches is more suitable and preferably used.

4. Participation in the Procession is highly advised. Do not only get the Palm branches. It means you go to Mass early so as to avoid late coming.

5. Blessed Palms or olive branches should not be kept as amulets, or for therapeutic or magical reasons to dispel evil spirits or to prevent the damage these cause in the fields or in the homes, all of which can assume a certain superstitious guise. Palms and olive branches are kept in the home as a witness to faith in Jesus Christ, the messianic king, and in his Paschal Victory.

6. According to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem speaks of Jesus as King. Jesus claims the right of kings, known throughout antiquity, to requisition modes of transport. The use of an animal on which no one had yet sat is a further pointer to the right of kings. Most striking, though, are the Old Testament allusions that give a deeper meaning to the whole episode. . . .The use of a Donkey highlights the fact that Jesus is the King of Peace., His humility and life of simplicity.

7. The Spreading of Garments according to Pope Benedict XVI shows that the Israelites recognized Jesus as their messianic king. It belongs to the tradition of Israelite kingship (cf. 2 Kings 9:13).

8. The word “Hosanna” means according to
Benedict XVI:
Originally this was a word of urgent supplication, meaning something like: Come to our aid! By the time of Jesus, the word acquired Messianic overtones. In the Hosanna acclamation, we find an expression of the complex emotions of the pilgrims accompanying Jesus and of his disciples: joyful praise of God at the moment of the processional entry, hope that the hour of the Messiah had arrived, and at the same time a prayer that the Davidic kingship and hence God’s kingship over Israel would be reestablished.

9. The Liturgical color for this day is Red which signifies God's love, His blood which He shed for our sake for love.

A summary of human life can be experienced if one were to accompany Jesus from Palm Sunday to Easter.
On Palm Sunday, Jesus is apparently at the height of his popularity after having received a rousing welcome because of his fame as a wonder-working teacher.
As we enter into Holy Week, everything changes to betrayal, torture and death. The admiring throng and the hosannas are things of the past. Even being a participant in the Last Supper does not prevent one from betraying Jesus.
The man dying on the cross like a common criminal does not in any way appear like the Messiah who was acclaimed just a few days earlier. How did Jesus go through this ordeal? In his most trying moments of crisis, he turns first, not for human consolation, but to God. Jesus' story can be our story.
What we contemplate today and this week is a graphic and realistic account of what every human life is.
Finally, the victory is ours!

A pilot was told to transfer m@d pe0ple from Nigeria to U.S.A. He agreed and carried them into his plane🙂. Every place was noisy. Later one of the m@d men approached the pilot and said to him “please teach me how to fly the aeroplane?The pilot replied, I will teach you how to fly it if you will tell your friends to stop making noise.😒

The m@d man went in, after some minutes, everywhere was silent as if an angel entered the plane.😌 After some minutes the m@d man came back and told the pilot that everywhere was cool now. The pilot became happy and asked what did you tell them that made them calm.The m@d man replied, I opened the door for them to go and play outside.

The pilot fain*ted 🤣🤣🤣😂
