CAVEAT EMPTOR
The Chief and the entire Chukwum Nwodo Dynasty of Ndi Agu Akpugo Village, Nkanu West L.G.A., Enugu State, hereby issue this public notice.
Our attention has been drawn to pictures being circulated online, accompanied by false claims concerning the marital status of our daughter.
We categorically state that the man appearing in some of the circulated pictures is her former boyfriend, and their relationship ended in 2018.
All pictures of them together were taken during the period of their former relationship.
In particular, the picture in which they are seen wearing matching outfits was taken at a burial ceremony.
The outfit was a general burial uniform (Aso-Ebi) worn by several attendees and was not a marriage or traditional wedding attire.
For the avoidance of doubt, the said man has never paid her bride price or performed any traditional marriage rites concerning her.
He has never been formally introduced to the family as her husband, nor was any customary marriage concluded before their relationship ended.
He is simply a person she dated in the past, and everyone is entitled to have a past.
Anyone circulating these pictures and falsely claiming that the said man is married to her is hereby challenged to produce credible proof of any such marriage.
In particular, proof of when, where, and before whom any alleged bride price or traditional marriage rites were performed should be provided.
We therefore urge members of the public to disregard and desist from circulating these false and misleading claims.
Continued publication or circulation of such allegations may result in appropriate legal action against the perpetrators.
Such action may include claims arising from defamation, character assassination, cyberbullying, and the circulation of false information, as advised by our legal representatives.
CAVEAT EMPTOR: Let all persons be duly warned to stop the circulation of these false claims and govern themselves accordingly.
