I am just super grateful to God for sooo many things.

This 1st half of 2024 has been the best so far for my agency, clients and myself.

This month, I already have a lot of celebrations and still believe more will happen this month.

July is my birthday month, my first son's birthday month and something coming soon (I'll let you know later).

For the past week I have been talking about your brand's positioning based on connection and value to attain sustainability.

This post focuses on how lack of proper communication can seriously affect a brand.

As a brand originator, you may have the best of brand story and core values but if you are unable to communicate this to your marketing team, in a while can result in a gap between the brand and it's customers.

This lack of proper communication can cause a misalignment in the brands marketing message, the content and in the interaction with customers.

What this does is it breaks the connection your brand has with it's customers and this becomes evident in loss of customers and revenue generation.

You don't expect your marketing team to know what you haven't communicated properly to them.

Your brand story or core value is why your brand is and is not expected to change even if other things do.

It's just like saying you are Anita today and Clarisse tomorrow and then Chloe then Vanessa.

This will only confuse people who know you as they will be struggle to know and understand you.

If I don't know you or I'm no longer attracted to you because you are not similar to my person, I will just leave you. It's as simple as that. And remember your customers connected to your story because it felt familiar to them.

This is why it's also important to employ people who can align to your core values for better communication. You cannot be saying A and your team is saying B.

In my last post, I talked about the difference between a PRICE-DRIVEN business and a CONNECTION/VALUE-DRIVEN business.

So in this post I am giving an a real life example of a CONNECTION/ VALUE-DRIVEN business (a business that focuses on the connection they establish with their customers and/or the value which their customers derive from using their products as their USP and how this ensures they are SUSTAINABLE).

You may know the .coat brand (if you don't, you can check them out).

There a lot of brands who produce and sell makeup products.

And there are lots of women out there who love to wear the natural look.

So .coat developed the Facecoatℒ️ products for women who want flawless face with minimal makeup (almost natural look) thereby satisfying this group of women.

This brand has developed it's brand story around this need and relays this story effectively thereby creating a CONNECTION with this group of women.

And their products with confirmation from so many women who have used their products do not leave that cakey feeling, drip or feel heavy like the regular foundation (THE VALUE their customers derive from using their products).

So I believe now you understand what a CONNECTION/ VALUE-DRIVEN business is and the need to turn yours to one.

Let's consider these two categories of businesses:

πŸ”Έ PRICE-DRIVEN businesses
πŸ”Έ CONNECTION/VALUE-DRIVEN businesses

Price-driven businesses focus on PRICE alone as their unique selling point (USP). They compete on price (meaning they strive to sell cheaper than the competition) thereby attracting price-driven purchases from their customers.

On the other hand, Connection/Value-driven businesses are built on connection established with their customers and the value their customers derive from their product.

Even if they sell the same product as the price-driven businesses do, they use the connection & value given as their USP making their product seem as though it's an entirely different product and because of this, they attract a connection/value purchase from their customers.

When customers go to a price-driven business, their intention is to get that product at a "cheap price" and if they don't they turn to the next price-driven business.

But when customers approach a connection/Value-driven business, they are compelled to see that same product in a different way. The price is no longer on their minds but their focus is on how to obtain the value this product offers. With this, they have succeeded in differentiating their own product hence creating a CATEGORY for themselves in the market.

Now answer this: which of these discussed businesses has the ability to be SUSTAINABLE?
