Yesterday, we celebrated the 18th anniversary of Drawbridge CM Ltd in the company of a few friends.
It hasn't been an easy journey into adulthood especially in an operating environment as volatile as Nigeria's but it has been a priceless learning experience, and one which has positioned us strongly for the future. During the event, we unveiled our new consulting methodology, alongside a suite of frameworks for different practice areas cutting across PR, Brand Management and Marketing Communications. These steps were a direct result of some of the lessons of the past 18 years and why the theme of our celebration this year is 'Engineering the future of Institutional trust. We will quickly summarise these lessons below:
1. Intuition is a liability; data is the anchor: In our early years, our industry relied heavily on subjective wisdom, creative guesswork, and reactive media pushes. Eighteen years of navigating volatile markets proved that unvalidated assumptions fail under executive board scrutiny. This lesson directly shaped our mandatory Diagnose phase, ensuring every strategy begins with empirical data rather than speculative opinion.
2. Communication without governance is just noise A great narrative falls apart without operational discipline. We learned that managing complex corporate reputations requires the same project management rigor used in corporate finance or engineering. This insight drove us to integrate live RAID risk logging into our delivery model, elevating PR from tactical publicity to a structured management science.
3. Reputation is an enterprise asset, not a marketing feature: Communication outcomes has long been treated as an operational afterthought summoned to polish images, extinguish fires or influence target market behaviour. Over two decades, we saw stakeholder trust move to the absolute center of regulatory compliance, investor confidence, and corporate survival. This realization inspired our Trust Engineering ethos and repeatable product blueprints, positioning communication as a boardroom driver of long-term institutional value.
Thank you once again, to all our friends, partners, clients and our amazing team members (past and present) for your part in our story.
