JUDICIAL VICTORY: APPEAL COURT REVERSES DEREGISTRATION OF ADC, ACCORD, AND THREE OTHER PARTIES

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, on Tuesday 27/07/2026, overturned the judgment of the Federal High Court that ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the ACCORD and three other political parties, restoring their legal status.

In its ruling, the appellate court set aside the earlier decision of the Federal High Court, holding that the order for the deregistration of the affected political parties could not stand. The judgment effectively reinstates the parties, allowing them to continue participating in Nigeria’s democratic process in accordance with the law.

The decision is regarded as a significant development in the country’s political landscape, particularly as political parties intensify preparations for forthcoming elections. It provides relief for the affected parties, whose existence had been threatened by the earlier court ruling.

Among the beneficiaries of the judgment are the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Accord Party, alongside three other political parties that were also affected by the Federal High Court’s deregistration order.

Political observers say the ruling reinforces the importance of due process and judicial oversight in matters affecting the operations and existence of registered political parties in Nigeria.

On Thursday, 16th July 2026, Accord State Chairmen and National Officers paid a solidarity visit to the National Chairman, Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem at the Party's National Secretariat, Area 3, Garki, Abuja, where they passed a vote of confidence in his visionary, purposeful, transformative and progressive leadership which attracted numerous Nigerians to the Party including the His Excellency Senator Ademola Adeleke, Senators, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly members as well as credible candidates for the 2023 general election.

Accord members expressed optimism that the Party will win the 15th August 2026, governorship election in Osun State and urged residents to turn up en masse and vote for the Party, stressing that His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke has performed well in his first term and deserves a second term to consolidate his achievements and take Osun State to the next level. Party leaders also urged Nigerians to identify with Accord and vote for its candidates in the 2027 general election.

National Chairman of the Party, Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem commended the State Chairmen and National Officers who paid him a solidarity visit assuring them that he would justify the confidence reposed in him.
