NYSC OYO SC TASKS STAFF ON DEDICATION, TEAMWORK AHEAD OF 2026 BATCH C STREAM I

The State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps Oyo State, Mr. Kayode Ola Peters, has charged members of staff to remain dedicated, diligent and committed to their responsibilities, stressing that their collective efforts are critical to sustaining the State Secretariat’s reputation as one of the high-performing formations of the Scheme. He gave the charge at a general staff meeting held in preparation for the 2026 Batch C Stream I Orientation Course at the Multipurpose Hall of the NYSC State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

Mr. Peters commended staff for their commitment, cooperation and shared sense of responsibility during previous Orientation exercises, urging them to build on the gains recorded and redouble their efforts towards a successful exercise. He emphasised the importance of teamwork among camp officials, noting that effective collaboration is central to the successful delivery of the NYSC mandate. He also called for mutual respect among staff and personnel of collaborating agencies, stressing that physical confrontation or any form of misconduct would not be tolerated.

The State Coordinator further urged staff to uphold discipline and safeguard the image and integrity of the Scheme through responsible conduct at all times. He emphasised the need for emotional intelligence in dealing with Prospective Corps Members (PCMs), who come from diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds. According to him, patience, empathy, understanding and professionalism are essential to effectively managing the expectations and individual needs of young Nigerians entrusted to the care of the Scheme.

In his remarks, the Camp Director, Mr. Emmanuel Alo, solicited the commitment and cooperation of all staff towards delivering a hitch-free and impactful Orientation Course. He advocated innovative approaches to addressing the evolving needs of contemporary youths, noting that new strategies were required to achieve improved outcomes. He also urged staff to handle issues involving PCMs with wisdom, maturity and professionalism, particularly in view of the high expectations many of them would bring to the Orientation experience.

The meeting featured contributions, observations and guidance from members of the management team, with emphasis on teamwork, discipline, professionalism and collective responsibility as key pillars for a successful Orientation Course. The high point was the presentation of a portrait to the State Coordinator by newly employed staff members in appreciation of his leadership and commitment to staff development.

NYSC OYO SC DEMANDS PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT, HEIGHTENED SECURITY AT ORIENTATION CAMP

The State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Oyo State, Mr. Kayode Ola Peters, has charged heads of committees and collaborating agencies to uphold professionalism, courtesy and vigilance in the discharge of their responsibilities as the State prepares to receive Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) for the 2026 Batch C Stream I Orientation Course. Peters gave the charge during the State Coordinator and Principal Camp Officials’ meeting, where he stressed that every stakeholder has a role to play in creating a safe, welcoming and purposeful environment that reflects the ideals of the NYSC Scheme.

The State Coordinator particularly urged officials to accord PCMs a warm and respectful reception, cautioning against hostile, indifferent or dismissive responses to those seeking assistance or lodging complaints. He advised that concerns should be patiently received and directed to the appropriate authority where necessary, noting that the quality of interaction between officials and PCMs could influence their perception of the Scheme. He therefore called for a service-oriented approach anchored on courtesy, empathy, discipline and responsibility, in keeping with the ethos of national service.

Addressing security concerns, Peters directed relevant personnel to intensify surveillance within and around the camp while ensuring proper profiling and identification of persons seeking access to the premises. He emphasised the need for vigilance in identifying individuals whose presence or purpose could not be readily established, stressing that effective camp security requires prompt attention, information sharing and coordinated action. He equally tasked the various committees with improving their performance and maintaining effective working relationships to ensure that the Orientation Course achieves its objectives.

The Camp Director-designate, Mr. Alo Emmanuel, also called on stakeholders to maintain high standards of conduct and proper identification while performing their duties. He urged personnel from the NYSC and collaborating agencies to operate as a unified team, noting that the responsibilities attached to the Orientation Course require collective commitment rather than institutional separation. Emmanuel further encouraged stakeholders to demonstrate cooperation, professionalism and alertness, particularly in their interactions with PCMs and in the ex*****on of assigned responsibilities.

In his remarks, the Camp Commandant, Captain A. Musa, underscored the importance of sustained collaboration among stakeholders in maintaining a secure and well-coordinated camp environment. He noted that effective security depends largely on continuous communication, mutual support and vigilance among personnel.

NYSC OYO COORDINATOR URGES HEIGHTENED SECURITY FOR CORPS MEMBERS AHEAD OF 2027 POLLS

The State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps Oyo State, Mr. Kayode Ola Peters, has called for sustained security measures and stronger inter-agency collaboration to guarantee the safety and welfare of corps members who will participate in the forthcoming 2027 General Elections. He made the call at the Electoral Stakeholders’ Meeting held at the Collation Centre, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Office, Ibadan, where stakeholders reviewed key issues critical to the successful conduct of the elections.

The meeting brought together electoral and security stakeholders to strengthen cooperation, enhance communication and reinforce collective responsibility for peaceful, credible and transparent elections. In his remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Oyo State, Professor Rahman Tella, emphasised the importance of synergy among stakeholders, urging them to remain committed to their respective responsibilities while working collectively to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

Speaking on the welfare of corps members, Mr Peters described NYSC as a household name with a presence across communities nationwide, stressing the immense trust parents and guardians place in the Scheme when they entrust their children and wards to its care. “Their parents and guardians put them in our care; we cannot afford to slack in our responsibilities to them,” he said. He commended the security agencies for their continued efforts and prompt response to issues involving corps members, urging them to sustain and strengthen their commitment to their safety throughout the electoral period.

As preparations for the 2027 General Elections gather momentum, the State Coordinator stressed the need for sustained collaboration among INEC, NYSC, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to create a secure environment for corps members to discharge their electoral responsibilities. He noted that collective commitment, vigilance and discipline would remain essential to protecting corps members and supporting the peaceful and credible conduct of the elections in Oyo State.

OYO GOVERNOR MAKINDE BOLSTERS NYSC WELFARE WITH 800 MATTRESSES

The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has reinforced his administration’s commitment to the welfare, safety and security of National Youth Service Corps members with the donation of 800 mattresses to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin.

The intervention, facilitated through the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Kayode Ola Peters, reflects the Governor’s recognition of the Scheme’s significant contribution to the development of the State. Corps members deployed across the 33 Local Government Areas continue to support critical sectors, including health, education, agriculture and infrastructure, while also advancing healthcare delivery through the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).

Governor Makinde also commended the leadership of Mr. Peters, describing the activities of the NYSC in Oyo State as worthy of commendation. He praised corps members for their dedication to national service and assured that his administration would continue to support initiatives that enhance their wellbeing and enable them to perform their assignments effectively.

Receiving the mattresses on behalf of the Scheme, Mr. Peters expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde for his sustained support for corps members. He also conveyed the gratitude of the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General OO Nafiu, noting that the intervention would significantly improve sleeping facilities and enhance the comfort and morale of corps members during the Orientation Course.

Peters further acknowledged God’s continued protection over corps members and described the donation as a meaningful gesture that would bring relief and genuine smiles to those serving the nation in Oyo State.

In a complementary effort to strengthen camp infrastructure, the State Coordinator has also constructed a new kitchen facility at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin. The project is designed to provide a safer, cleaner and more hygienic environment for the preparation of meals for corps members and other camp participants.

According to him, the intervention forms part of his administration’s deliberate efforts to improve camp facilities, strengthen welfare standards and create a more conducive environment for effective national service.

Management, staff and corps members expressed appreciation for the interventions, describing the State Coordinator as a “silent achiever” whose strategic and practical initiatives continue to improve facilities and enhance the experience of corps members serving in Oyo State.

NYSC OYO STATE COORDINATOR REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO CORPS MEMBERS’ WELFARE, SERVICE EXCELLENCE

The State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps Oyo State, Mr. Kayode Ola Peters, has reiterated the unrelenting commitment of the Scheme to the welfare, safety and overall wellbeing of Corps Members serving in the State. He made this known while delivering his address at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin. He assured the Corps Members that the Scheme would continue to prioritise their welfare and provide the necessary support to enable them discharge their responsibilities effectively throughout the service year.

Mr. Peters expressed satisfaction with the attitude, character, discipline and composure demonstrated by the Corps Members throughout the orientation exercise, describing them as law-abiding, committed, obedient and well-mannered young Nigerians. He said their conduct had strengthened his confidence in their capacity to make meaningful contributions to national development and create positive change in their various host communities. He urged them to sustain the values of discipline, patriotism, selflessness and responsible citizenship, which constitute essential elements of the NYSC policy.

The State Coordinator further emphasised the importance of the various trainings received during the orientation course, including lectures, drills and the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. He charged the Corps Members to translate the knowledge, skills and values acquired on camp into practical actions that would enrich their personal lives and positively influence those around them. According to him, the true measure of their orientation would be reflected in their ability to serve as role models, demonstrate integrity and contribute constructively to the development of their host communities.

Assuring the Corps Members of a peaceful and secure service year in Oyo State, Mr. Peters encouraged them to interact freely and positively with members of their host communities. He described the people of Oyo State as hospitable and accommodating, urging the Corps Members to embrace their communities, understand their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to their development. He noted that their service year should be viewed as an opportunity to build relationships, promote national unity and broaden their understanding of Nigeria’s diverse cultures and communities, adding that some might even discover in Oyo State a place they would eventually call home. He also appealed to employers of Corps Members to provide basic welfare necessities, particularly accommodation and transportation or an appropriate allowance in lieu.

Mr. Peters commended the Oyo State Government, under the leadership of the Executive Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for its consistent support for the NYSC Scheme in the State. He equally appreciated camp officials, security personnel, instructors, facilitators and other stakeholders whose dedication contributed to the successful and hitch-free conduct of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course. He charged the Corps Members to proceed to their Places of Primary Assignment with renewed commitment, humility and a strong sense of responsibility, reminding them that their service year represents not only an opportunity to serve their fatherland but also a platform to embody the ideals of national unity, selflessness, discipline and sustainable community development.

SERVE WITH PURPOSE, UPHOLD NYSC VALUES, OYO COORDINATOR TELLS CORPS MEMBERS

The State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, Oyo State, Mr. Kayode Ola Peters, has charged the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corps Members to uphold discipline, patriotism, integrity and selfless service as they progress into the next phase of their national service. He gave the charge while debriefing the Corps Members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin, following the successful completion of the Orientation Exercise, which constitutes the first cardinal programme of the NYSC. The State Coordinator congratulated the Corps Members for completing the exercise successfully, commending them for their exemplary conduct, discipline and commitment throughout their stay in camp.

Mr. Peters explained that Posting and Primary Assignment constitute the second cardinal programme of the NYSC, providing Corps Members with the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national development within their Places of Primary Assignment. He informed them that posting letters would be distributed at the close of the Orientation Exercise and advised those posted within Oyo State to carefully study the instructions contained in their letters before proceeding to their various destinations. He urged them to accept their postings in good faith, noting that placements are made based on the requests of Corps employers, while Local Government Inspectors would be available to guide them through the process and address emerging concerns.

The State Coordinator further emphasised the importance of professionalism, responsible conduct and respect for institutional values at the Places of Primary Assignment. He warned Corps Members against inducing rejection or engaging in conduct capable of undermining the integrity of the NYSC scheme, stressing that any rejected Corps Member must obtain an official rejection letter and present it to the appropriate Local Government Inspector for necessary action. He assured them that their welfare remains a priority, while urging them to familiarise themselves with the NYSC Bye Laws and conduct themselves in ways that would bring honour to their families, institutions of graduation and the Service Corps.

On relocation, the State Coordinator advised Corps Members who applied for relocation to regularly check their dashboards for updates and confirmation of the outcome of their applications. Those successfully relocated, he stated, would be required to proceed immediately to their new States of deployment for registration and subsequent posting. He also reminded Corps Members that the NYSC monthly allowance is subject to satisfactory performance at their Places of Primary Assignment, completion of the required employer clearance, biometric verification and participation in Community Development Service, reinforcing the importance of consistency, responsibility and accountability throughout the service year.

Mr. Peters described Community Development Service as a vital platform through which Corps Members can translate the ideals of national service into tangible contributions to their host communities. He encouraged them to participate actively in general CDS activities while pursuing personal CDS projects capable of creating lasting social impact and earning commendation and recognition. He also urged them to take advantage of post camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training available across the Local Government Areas, stressing that the acquisition of relevant skills would enhance self reliance, entrepreneurship and their capacity to contribute to economic development.

The State Coordinator equally charged the Corps Members to observe the approved channels of communication, maintain strict security consciousness and seek appropriate permission before travelling outside the State. He advised them to prioritise their safety, move responsibly, keep their identity cards with them and promptly report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. He further reminded them to access medical care through NHIA accredited facilities, keep their NHIA cards readily available and maintain responsible digital conduct, warning against the unauthorised publication of NYSC related matters on social media or communication with the press on NYSC or government programmes.

In concluding his address, Mr. Peters reminded the Corps Members that the Orientation Exercise marks only the beginning of a journey designed to develop responsible citizens committed to national unity, service to humanity and sustainable development. He urged them to approach their Places of Primary Assignment with diligence, humility and a strong sense of duty, while looking forward to Community Development Service and, ultimately, the Winding Up and Passing Out Parade that will mark the completion of their national service. The debriefing climaxed with the introduction of Zonal and Local Government Inspectors, alongside the presentation of commendation letters to distinguished officials and Corps Members whose exceptional contributions stood out during the Orientation Exercise.
