Another year has found me. I survived again.

Another chapter quietly opens,
carrying memories of where I have been,
lessons from what I have survived,
and dreams of where I am yet to go.

I have walked through seasons that tested me,
moments that humbled me,
and days that taught me the quiet strength of simply moving forward.

Does Nollywood really need another argument about who is older, who acted first, or who started before whom?

Honestly, I think we are arguing about the wrong things.

An actor being older than another actor does not build an industry. Acting in Nollywood before someone else does not solve Nollywood’s structural problems.

Being the first to do something deserves its place in history, the pioneers, the originators, the sacrifice and their impacts, but it should not become the centre of our industry conversations when more filmmaker are struggling to get investors or markets for their films

Nollywood has a far more serious problem at this moment, “MARKETING AND DISTRIBUTION”

We have films being made every day, yet many of them struggle to reach the right audience.

We have talented actors and filmmakers whose work never gets the visibility or commercial value it deserves.

We have stories with enormous potential that disappear after their premieres because there is no serious distribution strategy behind them.

So why are we spending so much energy debating seniority?

Who acted first will not put Nigerian films in more cinemas.

Who started first will not get our films into more territories.

Who is older will not improve our streaming deals.
Seniority will not build stronger distribution networks.

And the title of “Nollywood veteran” will not, by itself, create a sustainable film business.

We need to start asking harder questions.

How do we market Nigerian films properly?

How do we build distribution systems that work beyond Nigeria?

How do we make Nigerian films discoverable to audiences who are willing to pay for them?

How do producers retain meaningful value from their intellectual property?

How do we move from simply celebrating the number of films produced to measuring how many people actually saw them and what the films earned?

There is nothing wrong with knowing who came before us. History matters. Pioneers deserve recognition.

But an industry cannot build its future by constantly looking backward.

Nollywood needs fewer ego-driven debates and more serious conversations about the business of film.

For the life I have lived, the lessons that shaped me, the challenges I overcame, and the grace that kept me moving when the road was uncertain.

Life tested me in ways I never expected. There were hurdles, quiet battles, hard lessons, and wins that felt even sweeter because of what it took to reach them.

Now, as I approach another birthday, I look back with gratitude.

For the journey. For the growth. For every challenge I survived. For every win. For the grace that carried me through it all.

Grateful. Thankful. Graceful.
