URGENT for anyone travelling to the US for the World Cup or any trip π«
Please read and share before you pack. π
US Customs will seize these Nigerian foods at the airport β and if you don't declare them, you could be fined UP TO $1,000:
π« Kilishi β it's classified as a meat product. Will be confiscated.
π« Bushmeat β 100% banned. No exceptions.
π« Suya β even dried and vacuum-sealed, still a meat product.
π« Fresh peppers and vegetables β caught at agricultural inspection every time.
π« Iru and ogiri β flagged by the smell and seized.
π« Homemade puff puff, akara, chin chin β homemade food is not allowed.
π« Market-wrapped stockfish β loose packaging = very likely seized.
The rule that most Nigerians don't know:
ALWAYS DECLARE food items on your customs form β even if you're not sure whether it's allowed.
If you declare it and they decide to take it β no fine. You just lose the food.
If you DON'T declare it and they find it β fine of up to $1,000.
With the World Cup 2026 now happening in the US, SO many Nigerians are travelling right now. Please forward this to your group chats and save someone from a very expensive airport experience. π
