The other day, my friends and I were talking about social media and recounting some interesting experiences of people we knew:
👉🏽 A young boy, Emmanuel who made a post about how inspired he was by Tony Elumelu (CEO, UBA Group) and how that simple LinkedIn post got the attention of Tony Elumelu and he automatically made this 19-year old boy his mentee.
👉🏽 A popular Nollywood actress, Ini Dima who made a simple post talking about her favourite chocolate brand. A concerned follower packaged and sent those chocolates to her and that’s how started. 😍
👉🏽 Oh and ofcourse, Preston Perry, who made a post on his socials asking his followers to pray for him because he wanted a male child. Few months later, he was back to say “Thank you so much guys, the prayers worked. My wife was just delivered of a bouncing baby boy.”
If you look closely, you’ll find one common thing in all these stories.
How social media has helped these people get what they needed.
Now, it didn’t just happen casually. It happened because they were intentionally about sharing content on social media.
See, on the internet, it’s a give and take situation.
If you want people to connect with you and relate with you, you must be able to give them what they want.
And what do they want?
It’s simple:
👉🏽Valuable content
You can’t go far if all you do online is post your business.
Nahh
People want to get to know you. They want you to share your feelings, experiences and stories with them. That’s how they can get to know and trust you better.
Have you ever wondered why celebrities share almost everything online?
-GRWM (Get Ready With Me)
-A day in my life
-Come with me to my best friend’s wedding
-My pregnancy journey
-Behind the scene, etc
That’s because they are trying to win your trust and that’s also why when they post a product, you are quick to buy or recommend it because you already feel like you KNOW them!!
What am I trying to say to you?
Don’t be stingy with content.
Don’t be doing “I’m a very private person” and expect social media to favour you.
You have to be willing to share.
Tell us about yourself, your likes, hobbies, values, experiences, stories, etc.
The more we know about you, the more we can trust you enough to buy from you.
And who knows? You might just be like the people who were able to get their dream connections, a mentor or even a life partner.😊
Put your hand on your chest and say “I will be generous with my content from now on.”
Say it two more times and go and share a summary of what you learned today online.
Don’t forget to use the hashtag:
“Private person” and “I’m shy”doesn’t pay the bills o!
Please learn to share and share more content.
I love you. ❤️
