Today I want to share a story about Omolola...
In 2020, when the world was coming to terms with the realities of the effects of the pandemic, for many of us found ourselves at a crossroads. For years, we had relied on the predictability of office life, but suddenly, everything changed. Like many, Omolola—an admin and marketing executive in her late 30s—was forced to adjust to this new reality combined with the fact that she had a young family who needed her presence more. It wasn’t just about moving her desk into her living room; it was about rethinking her career path entirely.
At first, the idea of working from home seemed daunting. How would she juggle conference calls, client demands, and household responsibilities without the clear boundaries she had in the office? The initial weeks were a struggle, with the pressure to adapt quickly mounting every day. But Omolola had something going for her—a willingness to try something new.
As the months passed, she began to see the opportunities in remote work.
Without the daily commute, she suddenly had more time to invest in herself. She started picking up new skills—like graphic design and content creation—using online courses. In between work tasks, she started freelancing, offering her services to small businesses that needed help navigating the digital space. What began as a side hustle soon turned into a full-blown career change.
By mid-2021, Omolola had launched her own digital marketing consultancy, helping entrepreneurs establish their online presence. The transition wasn’t without its challenges—balancing client acquisition, self-promotion, and actual work wasn’t easy. But with each new client, her confidence grew.
Today, Omolola has not only fully embraced the remote work lifestyle, but she’s also thriving as a business owner. She now enjoys the flexibility to spend time with her family while building a meaningful career that brings her both fulfillment and financial independence.
This is actually my story, like many others, it shows that with the right mindset and a willingness to learn, anyone can make the leap into working from home or starting their own business. It’s not always a smooth journey, but the rewards can be life-changing.
Have a great Tuesday!
