Nigeria is increasingly being viewed not only as a large market, but as a potential entry point into Africa.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Creative Economy recently highlighted Nigeria as a possible gateway for
Indonesian creative businesses looking to expand across the continent, with opportunities across film, fashion, crafts and food.

Importantly, the Ministry also emphasised the need to understand Nigerian market trends and consumer needs before entering.

That distinction matters.

Market size creates opportunity, but successful entry still depends on understanding how the market works — from consumers and distribution channels to regulation and the right local partnerships.

For international companies considering Nigeria, identifying the opportunity is only the starting
point.

Nigeria’s solar sector continues to evolve.

BusinessDay recently reported on efforts to move Nigeria’s off-grid energy sector towards more
commercially viable utility markets, alongside plans to reach 3.7GW of solar manufacturing capacity by 2027.

It is a timely development as we reflect on the Rentech Impact Cluster, a two-year initiative involving the Dutch Government and Nigerian and Dutch companies working to strengthen collaboration and opportunities within Nigeria’s renewable energy sector.

Commercium Africa supported the project across its two-year implementation, working with partners and participating companies to facilitate engagement, coordination, and connections between the Nigerian and Dutch markets.

As the sector develops, many of the themes at the heart of the project - local capacity, commercial partnerships, investment, and a stronger renewable energy ecosystem - remain just as relevant.

For us, that is one of the most valuable measures of a project’s impact: whether the work and relationships built continue to matter as the market moves forward.

Nigeria ranked as Africa's highest-performing economy in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2026, placing 55th globally.

The ranking reflects the country's economic scale and market potential, while also highlighting areas where infrastructure and institutional improvements remain important.

For businesses considering Nigeria, the takeaway is clear: the opportunity is significant, but success depends on understanding the market and navigating it effectively.

These are the kinds of market developments we continue to monitor as we support companies exploring opportunities in Nigeria.

Meaningful partnerships begin with the right conversations.

In March 2026, Commercium Africa supported the Netherlands in Nigeria Dutch–Nigeria Horticulture B2B Meetings by coordinating targeted business matchmaking, event planning, and on-the-ground delivery.

The meetings brought together Dutch and Nigerian companies to explore opportunities across horticulture, including seeds, agricultural technology, cold chain, and sustainable farming.

Education partnerships begin with meaningful conversations.

In 2022, Commercium Africa supported the Swiss Learning Swiss Learning engagement session hosted by the Consulate General of Switzerland in Lagos, providing on-the-ground event coordination and guest registration.

The session brought together stakeholders to explore opportunities in Swiss education, skills development, and collaboration with Nigerian institutions. Our role was to ensure the experience ran smoothly, allowing the focus to remain on dialogue and relationship-building.

Well-executed events create the conditions for lasting partnerships—and we're proud to support the organisations making them happen.
