BREAKING NEWS 💥

NIGERIA’S SOLAR MINI-GRID MARKET IS ENTERING A MAJOR NEW PHASE

Nigeria is accelerating the expansion of distributed renewable energy, with the DARES programme targeting electricity access for more than 17.5 million Nigerians through solar mini-grids and standalone solar systems.

The $750 million World Bank-backed programme is designed to scale private-sector deployment across underserved and unserved communities, creating a much larger market for renewable-energy developers, EPC companies, equipment suppliers, financiers and O&M providers.

The opportunity is already moving beyond plans. The REA says financing and project structures are being developed to accelerate mini-grid deployment, while IFC is backing additional developers, including a proposed portfolio of 76 mini-grids totaling 8.55 MW.

WHY THIS MATTERS FOR SOLAR INSTALLERS

This is bigger than residential inverter installations.

The next phase of Nigeria's solar industry will increasingly involve 👇🏻

• Solar mini-grids
• Battery energy storage systems
• Commercial and industrial solar
• Rural electrification
• Productive-use energy systems
• EPC and project development
• Operations and maintenance
• Energy monitoring and asset management

For serious solar professionals, the message is clear.

Nigeria’s renewable-energy market is moving from individual installations toward large-scale energy infrastructure.

Installers who want to remain relevant should start developing capabilities beyond simply installing panels and inverters.

INSTALLER, BEFORE YOU CLIMB THAT ROOF, ASK ONE MORE QUESTION.

If your client is living in a rented apartment, confirm that the landlord has approved the work before you climb the rooftop, drill a wall, mount panels, or start any installation.

That may sound like a small detail, but professionally, it is critical site information you must obtain from your client.

Last week, Engr. Bobby went behind bars after allegedly proceeding with work without confirming the landlord’s approval.

He was on the rooftop doing his job, while the police were already waiting downstairs with a Hilux for him to come down. 😳

Imagine going to a site with your tools and returning in a police vehicle.

As an installer, your job is to deliver energy, not collect police reports.

Before you touch that roof, ask these questions 👇🏻

Is this your property?
If the answer is no then ask 👇🏻
Do you have the landlord’s approval for this installation?

A professional installer should be heading home after a successful job, not heading to the police station.

Do your technical assessment. Do your safety assessment. And do your ownership/approval assessment.

Because sometimes, the biggest problem on a solar site isn't the inverter, battery, cable or roof.

It’s the person who never gave you permission to be there.

Please share this so that another innocent Installer will not find himself behind the bars this week.

As we receive this month of October these are our wishes to you all.

As we receive this month may our work bring greater rewards and recognition.

May we stay safe on every installation and return home in peace.

May our business grow, our finances improve and our goals come through.

May we continue to support, uplift and build a stronger solar community together.

May this month bring us good health, joy and countless blessings.

HAPPY NEW MONTH TO YOU ALL.
AMEN 🙏🏻
