**Your CSR project can fail before the community ever says “no.”**
One of the biggest mistakes organisations make in **Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)** is designing projects based on assumptions rather than evidence.
A community may be labelled as “in need” of a particular intervention, but has anyone actually asked what they consider a priority?
Effective CSR strategy starts with stakeholder engagement, needs assessment and community consultation.
Before launching a CSR or community development project, organisations should understand:
→ What the community identifies as its priority
→ Who is affected by the issue
→ Which stakeholder groups have been heard
→ What concerns or opposing views exist
→ Whether stakeholder feedback has influenced the proposed solution
Because community engagement isn’t about getting people to approve a project you’ve already designed.
It’s about gathering the insight needed to design a better one.
For brands investing in CSR, sustainability and social impact, the question shouldn’t only be:
“How do we get community buy-in?”
Ask:
“What might we be getting wrong about what this community actually needs?”
That question can change the entire strategy.
Save this for your next CSR planning session and share it with someone responsible for stakeholder engagement or community development.
