, 18, was sentenced to 17 years in prison plus 5 years probation for the December 2024 stabbing death of 17-year-old Yakheim “Keimo” Lollar, a Miami Northwestern High School football player. Prosecutors had asked for 20 years. His family pushed for the maximum of 30. The judge gave her 17.
Malik initially told police the stabbing was an accident that they were just playing around and he “walked into the knife.” Surveillance video told a different story. You can hear Yakheim say “Jahara, don’t” seconds before he was stabbed in the heart in a parking garage.
Lollar’s mother, Nathalie Jean, said her son was killed because he was honest with Malik that he no longer wanted to be in a relationship with her. “She took my son’s life because he was honest that he didn’t want to be with her, she said.
Early on, the family noted Malik showed little remorse.
It took over a year before she pleaded guilty in March, with no plea deal. In court Tuesday, she tearfully apologized and said she “loved him” and never wanted this. His family wasn’t moved. “You are a murderer.
You are a demon seed,” one family member said from the stand.
Malik must also write a letter every year on the anniversary of the stabbing. His family is calling it justice. Hers is considering an appeal.
