Many businesses in Nigeria where I come from struggle to track influencer marketing campaigns and are often unable to determine their ROI, and this is often because

1️⃣ Mismatched Audience: They often pick someone with a big following, but their audience isn't interested in the business's product.

2️⃣ Poor Messaging: The influencer doesn't explain the product in a way that makes people want to buy it.

3️⃣ Lack of Credibility: The influencer has attention but lacks the respect needed for audience patronage, often due to viral mishaps.

Some common best practices to avoid these pitfalls include:

✅ Check For Audience Alignment:
This involves finding someone whose audience matches the business's ideal customer. Look at how many people interact with their posts, not just follower count.

✅ Optimize and Participate In Messaging:
Give the influencer clear instructions and a detailed brief of what to say to be on brand, but also let them be creative so their audience believes them.

✅ Create A System For Credibility Check:
Investigate the influencer’s past content and public image to ensure their credibility and respect within their community

Some other steps you can take for a more long-term ROI are to:

✅ Videos tend to capture more attention and encourage engagement. With LinkedIn's new feed, your B2B videos might reach a wider audience and can drive you higher engagement rates.

✅ With this video feed, you can show your business's human side and stop the bland B2B marketing content.

You can share behind-the-scenes footage, team introductions, customer testimonials and even deep insights in illustrations to build your authority, trust and rapport with your audience.

In my opinion of the algorithm, the content recommendation is not so different from the regular LinkedIn algorithm, however, this is your opportunity to connect better with your network and your network's network whenever they interact with your marketing content.

Suppose you're a business owner who has hired copywriters or looking to hire one. Here is a short insight into what copywriting and copywriters can and can't do for you.

❌ A Copywriter can't create a feeling of want in a customer

✅ But a copywriter can seek to resonate with a feeling or emotion that's already felt by a customer.

if the customer has a pain point, the copywriter finds it and seeks to address it while presenting your product as the best solution to the problem.

❌ A Copywriter can't tell a customer when or if the customer has a problem

✅ A good copywriter can attempt to make the problem that a customer already has, more obvious, to share a solution.

❌ A Copywriter can't tell a customer what they should do or not do

✅ But a copywriter can persuade a customer to take action by telling them;

-What they lose if they don't take action immediately

-Or the unlimited benefits they stand to gain if they do

❌ A Copywriter can't cause or mesmerize the customer to open their wallet

✅ But a copywriter can show the customer the value of the product or service and the importance of solving their problem immediately compared to simply keeping money in their wallets

❌ A Copywriter can't force you to share or repost this post

✅ But a copywriter can tell you that; the people in your network will see you as an authority and a leader in your niche if you share or repost useful content

I had a client I worked with at a point in time to generate leads for their agency through organic content… and within my first 60 days, we generated over 2K organic visits and clicks monthly from Google alone

But, a majority of these leads were not purchasing or converting

Which was a big problem for a small business

However, the problem was pretty simple;

We had not set up a LEAD QUALIFICATION SYSTEM in place.

(Not that I didnt request it but it was declined and I wasn't allowed to pursue it further)

Anyways,

“Lead qualification is the process of determining whether a potential customer has the right attributes to make them a good fit for a product or service”

It involves creating systems to answer questions like:

✅ Does the lead have a need or problem that your product/service can solve?

✅ Can the lead afford the product or service?

✅ Does the lead have the authority to make purchasing decisions

✅ Is the lead's timeline for purchase aligned with your preset business sales cycle?

and most importantly,

✅ Does the lead match your ideal customer profile

According to CSO insights study, sales reps spend (or should we say WASTE) 36% of their time pursuing unqualified leads,

The Aberdeen Group reported that companies who excel at lead qualification have over 17% shorter sales cycles,

And, according to HubSpot, businesses and agencies that prioritize lead qualification and nurturing can see up to a 451% increase in qualified leads

My conclusion:
Don’t just meet with every lead that fills out the form on your agency, small business or freelancing website

Send surveys

Use email drip campaigns to qualify their interest

Use explainer videos or demo content.

Aim to ascertain the clients-agency match, or clients-freelancer match or clients-product match before investing more time into sales.

There are two ways every business, freelancers or agency can use for attracting clients and you’ll find them and the common mistakes associated below;

Method 1: Inbound Methods 🧡and

Method 2: Outbound Methods🧡

With Inbound, you focus on attracting clients to your business via organic means, such as

▪️Posting helpful content on social media

▪️Writing useful blog posts

▪️Vlogging how-to content

▪️Providing contrast and comparison between products or services and so on.

However with Outbound methods, you can employ
▪️ Direct messages on social media

▪️ Sending cold emails

▪️ Cold calling potential clients and leads and many other tactics

However, here’s the mistake most newbie freelancers, business owners and agencies make!

▪️Newbie freelancers or agency owners focus more on outbound methods, and using freelancing platforms

THAN on inbound strategies

However, just as required for a business; simply sending messages to potential customers will result in burn out!

Striking a balance between both strategies

and ensuring they’re done to the best possible capacities is required for a consistent inflow of clients!

Then he took a deeper approach to learn the client's objection, explored the real problem of the customer and applied straightforward tactics to surmount this objection.
