"That's why I'd schedule the exchange at the police station 🙂"

This is the story and experience of many sellers and buyers at marketplaces. Both sellers and buyers are increasing feeling unsafe to buy from marketplaces and these reasons vary from being scamed, fraud, to kidnapping.

Marketplaces are usually patronized because products are cheaper to buy from such platforms. In an era where the cost of living is high, majority resort to cheaper and second - hand used commodities.

As a result, online predators take advantage of the situation to carry out anti-social and criminal activities whilst businesses take extra caution to protect their identity. In short, the level of trust in purchasing goods at marketplaces is very poor.

Sometimes ago, I had purchased so.e items on the Facebook marketplace solely for the reason that the location of the seller was close by. I agreed to the offer and arranged to meet the seller at a specified time.

I put In the post code only to realise that the seller is a close friend who lives adjacent to me. This is a friend I even share my car with. They used a different name on Facebook and didn't realise who they were. When she opened her door, we just stood starring at each other for some minutes without a word.

Your sales pitch not only promotes your brand, it is your selling point.

A good sales pitch should be clear, offer value for money and suggest why your offer is a better choice.

Your appearance matter in the delivery of your sales pitch. Your creativity, physical appearance and tone can compell customers attraction.

The video here is a good example of how you can be creative about selling your products to a diverse audience.

Another example was the monkey beating drums in Philly Collins sing - In Air Tonight, 2015. The monkey beating drum was later adopted by Cardbury to sell their chocolate products and also made Cadbury plc very popular and stand out from other similar brands.

How good is your sales pitch?
Good enough just to put food on the table?
Just ok to attract audience? Or
Doing well to generate sustainable income and growth for your business?

Whatever stage your are at - there is always room for improvement.

Why Supporting Small Businesses Is Vital for Economic Growth in Africa and Beyond

"In 2018, research by the UK’s Federation of Small Businesses revealed that small enterprises account for 99.3% of all businesses in the UK economy. Even more significantly, 60% of all private sector employment was attributed to these small businesses. These figures paint a clear picture: small businesses are the lifeblood of national economies.
In Nigeria, and indeed across Africa, the private sector—dominated by micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs)—plays an even more critical role. Though reliable data may vary, one thing is clear: the everyday businesses lining our streets, markets, and communities are not just economic agents, but also social stabilisers and engines of growth. From the woman selling roasted plantain (boli) on a busy Lagos street to the corner shop in Abuja supplying household goods, these businesses are indispensable."

A 2018 Research shows small businesses make up 99.3% of UK's economy and 60% portion of that makes up private business employment.

In Nigeria, empirically, we can deduce that the whole economy relies of private sector businesses and it is also its major source of employment.

Why support a small business?

Whether it is a road side vendor selling roasted plantain, corn or suya to the local corner shop supermarket; when you patronize by buying from them, you are not just helping to feed a mouth but most importantly, you are strengthening the economy.

Small businesses provide unique products and services. I have not seen any big brand stores in the likes of tesco and asda selling fish/chicken and chips; nether can you order roasted boli and suya from jumia.

Small businesses promotes unity, cohesive, welcoming and community relationships. The more diverse the businesses within a community, the more hospitable and more inclusive the community becomes.

Do you remember that person you always meet at the corner shop and end up chatting before heading to work. Are you also looking forward to holding that beautiful chat with the boli vendor because their conversation brightens up your day? We can't even deny countless life long relationships we built through people we met at our children's coaching centers and swimming pools.

Small businesses provide employment which strengthens the economy and enables it to flourish. A secured economy is a reflection of its flourishing small businesses.

So, next time you want to do your shopping, bear in mind the significant contributions of small businesses and do your part in enabling them to flourish.

To small and medium business owners and entrepreneurs:
Thank you for your numerous contributions, for the hard work and determination to make things work. You are very important and also deserve to be treated well and with kindness. You are the main heroes of our economies so keep striving and pushing until you achieve your goals and targets. You are a super star!

Best wishes
