When is this borrow borrow of federal government going to stop

BREAKING: Tinubu seeks Senate approval to borrow $6bn; Senate approves request.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu formally requested Senate approval for $6 billion in external loans via two separate letters read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The breakdown includes:

1. Up to $5 billion from First Abu Dhabi Bank
(VAE) as a structured total return swap for budget support, infrastructure projects, debt repayment, and meeting urgent obligations.

2. $1 billion UK Export Finance facility arranged by Citibank (London) specifically for rehabilitating key ports, including the Lagos Port Complex and Tin Can Island Port.

The Senate approved the request the same day within about 3-4 hours-after referring it to the Committee on Local and Foreign Debts (chaired by Sen. Aliyu Wamakko), which reportedly preser its findings promptly.

N.B: $6 billion is approximately N8.3 trillion
as of March 31, 2026.
