*MYTH: Cement blocks are waterproof*
This is a common belief among many homeowners – and even a few builders! People often assume that once a wall is built with cement blocks, it should naturally resist rain, moisture, or seepage.
*Sadly, that’s not the case.*
*FACT: Cement blocks are porous and absorb water* 💧🧱
Here’s why:
*MATERIAL COMPOSITION*
Cement blocks are created by mixing cement, sand, and water. Once they dry and harden, they still contain countless tiny holes called *pores*.
*POROSITY*
These pores act like mini sponges. When water touches the surface, it doesn’t bounce off – it *soaks in.* This is called *capillary absorption*. So if a cement wall is left exposed to rain without proper protection, water *will* pe*****te it over time.
*WHAT CAN GO WRONG IF YOU BELIEVE THIS MYTH?*⚠️
• Damp patches on walls
• Flaky, peeling paint
• Mould and mildew growth
• Long-term weakening of structural strength
*So, how do we make cement water-resistant?*
Cement needs *support* to fight off water – it’s strong, but not magical! ✨
*âś… Waterproofing additives*
Mixed in during block production or applied after construction.
*âś… Protective coatings or sealants*
Special waterproof paints or membranes stop water from entering the pores.
*âś… Smart architectural design*
Roof overhangs, drainage channels, and proper site grading help prevent water from collecting near the structure.
`Cement blocks are durable – but not waterproof on their own.`
At *ABuABuHu’s Construct*, we combine smart design with modern waterproofing techniques to keep your building dry, strong, and long-lasting.
