I, Ugochi Agalaba-Ehiahuruike, Executive Director, Social and Integral Development Center (SIDEC), Anambra State, recently participated 3 days in the impactful Farmers Financial Cycle and Micro Agric-Enterprise Training (MAT) organized by GIZ and EFinA.

The training enhanced my facilitation skills and strengthened my capacity to support smallholder farmers and vulnerable women with practical financial tools. I’m committed to putting this knowledge to work for economic justice in our communities.

My take aways are:

Know your priorities. Spend within your budget
Plan ahead and keep records
When men and Women plan and work together, everyone benefits
Always save for the future
Only borrow for opportunities, use a loan well and repay it on time
Get insured to protect your farm
Invest wisely and watch your business grow
Service providers must respect your rights
Know your business capacity for a loan
Faithfulness in partnership is a great gain
Know your digital options for saving, borrowing and spending money. Be aware of risk and how to transact safely
Forsake bad decision and bad behavior

My sincere appreciation to GIZ and EFinA for this opportunity.

Justice for a Widow

For over 30 years, she has lived peacefully in her late husband’s house. Now, her co-wife and children have dragged her to the High Court, demanding she vacates the home. Their accusation? That she killed their father, that's the first son of the widow's father in law second wife.

To prove her innocence, this widow even submitted to traditional oaths ( juju) yet they still took her to court. Shockingly, the court gave her just 3 months to vacate her matrimonial home, to make way for the second wife and children of her father-in-law.

After 30 years of marriage and loyalty, is this justice? A widow deserves protection, not persecution.

We call for a review of this judgment.
