A story about a Farmer who could understand the language of animals. (Read till the End)
This farmer who could understand the language of animals usually did linger in the farm yard every evening listening to the animals discuss.
One evening, he heard the Ox complaining bitterly to the Ass about how hard his job is...
"I work from morning till night pulling plow... Regardless of how hot the day is, how tired my legs are or how tightly the bow clings to my neck...I am not speard...I Must work or I get Flogged mercilessly
But you the Ass are a creature of Leisure. You are covered with a colourful blanket and you do nothing other than carry our Master about wherever he wishes to go.
When he goes nowhere, you just rest and eat the green grass all day long"
The Ass being a Good fellow, sympathized with the Ox and so he replied...
"My good friend,
You do work very very hard and so, I would do what I can to make your job easier for you...so that you wouldn't drop dead one of these days.
Now, I will give you an idea on how you might get the Master to give you a day to rest.
In the morning, when the slave comes to Fetch you to go and Work the Fields...lie on the ground and bellow(the deep roar of a large animal) so that he would think that you are very sick and so cannot work..."
So, the Ox took the advice of the Ass and the next morning, the Slave after seeing that the Ox looks sick went to the Farmer and told him that the Ox is unwell and therefore cannot work the fields.
"Then" said the Farmer "Go and get the Ass to work the fields for the work must be finished as soon a as possible"
So, all day, the ass, who had only intented to help his Friend, found himself compelled to do the work the Of should have been doing.
When the night came and he was released from work.....his heart was very bitter and his legs were shaking and his neck was sore where the bow had held him while he was plowing the fields.
Again, the Farmer lingered in the barnyard to Listen.
The Ox began first...."You are a very good friend o.
Because of your wise advise, I have enjoyed a day of rest...Thank you very much."
"And I" retorted the ass, "am like many simple hearted ones who start to help a friend and ends up doing his Task for him.
Henceforth, you draw your do your own work...for I heard the Master tell the slave to send for a Butcher of you ever get sick again...
I really wish he would send for one right now...for you are a very lazy fellow."
After that, they spoke to each other no more...and thus ended their friendship.
What Lesson have you learnt from this tale?
Well....there could be so many lessons derived from this simple tale...but the most prominent is...
"If you want to help a Friend, do so in such a way that will not bring thy friends Misfortune and Burdens upon thyself".
(Tale gotten from the Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason)
A classic!!!
I recommend you get one and Read over and over again....and Never stop reading it.
It's one of those books that is an abomination if you leave this life without reading...even if it's just one chapter.
