Tinubu New Directive Aims to Cut Government Expenditure
In a significant move to enhance fiscal responsibility, President Bola Tinubu has announced new restrictions for Federal Government officials, limiting Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys. This decision, detailed in a statement signed by the President, is part of a broader strategy to reduce government expenditure.
Earlier this year, President Tinubu took notable steps to cut costs, slashing his foreign trip entourage from 50 officials to 20, and local trip attendance from 25 to a more streamlined number. Similarly, he directed the Vice President to travel with only five officials internationally and 15 domestically.
In the latest directive, all ministers and agency heads are now required to operate with no more than five security personnel, comprising four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS). Furthermore, no additional security personnel will be assigned.
The President has tasked the National Security Adviser with collaborating with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to explore further reductions in both vehicle and security personnel deployments for government officials.
This initiative raises questions about its impact on governance and security. What are your thoughts on President Tinubu’s measures to cut costs? Do you believe this will lead to more efficient government operations? Share your opinions in the comments!
