The year was 2013...
It was another ASUU strike that lasted six months.

I stumbled on an investment opportunity online in my school e-library. But for a final year student, how was I to get $1000 to invest in this juicy offer that would yield me a whopping $30 every month passively.

Mhen, $1000 was such a huge amount, I think the dollar-naira exchange rate should #159.27 to $1 on the average. There wasn't a way I could make that money from anywhere that I knew of.

What's your advertisement (ad) budget for the year like?

If you don't put yourself out there, nobody's gonna know you.

You just have to be intentional about this.

If you know the job and you're not out there, people are gonna hire quacks to do the job because this so called quacks are out there in their face.

Remember, sales is a game of numbers. The more you out there, the more people will hire you. The more income you have, that's just the way it works.

IS SELLING REALLY THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE MONEY?

“A lot of so-called business owners and entrepreneurs act too posh to sell… when selling is the only way to make money.”

And this has raised the question: is selling really the only way to make money?

The answer is Yes and No.

Hear me out…

In the strict sense of selling, as in exchange of a product or service for money, the answer is NO.

BUT…in the broad sense of the word selling, the answer is YES!

In fact, selling is the only way to live this life successfully.

If you’ve read books like How To Make Friends and Influence People, you would know that human interaction is all about persuasion.

And persuasion is the foundation of selling.

Only way you don’t “sell” at all is if you don’t interact with humans at all.

If you need your friend to follow you to the movies, you have to sell the idea.

If you are invited as a speaker at an event, you have to sell your topic well so it’s received by the audience.

If you want your spouse to japa with you, you have to sell them on the idea — unless they are already sold on it themselves!

Back to making money…

Unless you are a criminal, selling is the only way to make money.

Every form of income is some sort of exchanging value for money!

If you apply for a job, first you’re selling yourself to the company on why they should employ you.

Next, if they employ you, you’re giving them your services, skills, time, energy in exchange for money.

That’s selling.

As a politician, you sell yourself to the electorates in the form of campaigns and manifestos. And when they vote you in, you are expected to fulfill your promises in exchange for the money you’re being paid.

That’s selling.

As a YouTube influencer, you entertain or educate people and then build an audience that way.

Some businesses pay you directly in exchange for promoting their stuff to your audience.

The platform pays you to advertise to your audience.

You’re doing a lot of selling there!

At the end of the day, you must sell something to make money legitimately and legally.

Whether it’s your product or service or time or skill or brain or idea or experience or influence, there must be an exchange of value. You must sell something to get money.

Even in lotteries, you give them money in exchange for the hope of getting bigger money.

In cases where you enter the draw without money, you’re still trading your time and attention for potential money.

I hope I’ve been able to “confuse” you and not convince you… Just kidding!

I hope I’ve been able to prove to you that the only way to make money (crime and gifts aside) is selling.

Even in inheritance, you got the money in exchange for your ties to the benefactor.

Nature did the selling for you.
