Yesterday, the Port Harcourt Medical Representative, an associate covering healthcare business development managers in Port Harcourt, to which I belong, held a briefing with the Chief Consultant of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), formerly known as Braithwaite Memorial Hospital (BMH), Dr. Okey Ikpeazu.

During the meeting, we exchanged valuable ideas and insights on strengthening relationships with prescribers and discussed effective measures to enhance patient care services.

SUCCESSFUL DELIVERY, INSTALLATION, AND COMMISSIONING OF FIVE (5) INFANT INCUBATORS AT THE DEPARTMENT OF PAEDIATRICS, FEDERAL TEACHING HOSPITAL (FTH), FORMER FMC, OWERRI, IMO STATE

Yesterday, Engr. Charles and I were at the Department of Paediatrics, Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Owerri, Imo State to deliver and successfully install five (5) infant incubators.The project marks valuable step forward in enhancing neonatal care and ensuring the well-being of newborns in the South- Eastern region.The incubators were strategically distributed across the department to maximize their impact.

Three (3) incubators were installed in the Inpatient Unit, ensuring that critically ill newborns and preterm babies receive the highest standard of care.

Two (2) incubators were placed in the Outpatient Unit, providing essential support for neonates requiring immediate attention and stabilization.

The achievement would not have been possible without the support and collaboration of these respectable key stakeholders. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to:

Dr. Sir. Achigbu Kingsley, Chief Medical Director (CMD), Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri, for his visionary leadership and support for this project.

Rev. Dr. Chinedu Iloh, Head of Procurement, Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri, for his key role in the acquisition and delivery of the incubators.

Dr. Mrs. Chinyere, Head of the Paediatric Department, for her dedication to improving neonatal care and her support during the installation and commissioning process.

The dedicated team of doctors, matrons, nurses, and support staff who assisted to ensure the success of this project.

These incubators represent a critical investment in the health and future of our youngest patients. They are equipped with advanced features to regulate temperature, humidity, and oxygen levels, creating a safe and controlled environment for vulnerable newborns. This development will undoubtedly reduce neonatal mortality rates and improve overall outcomes for infants in the region.

The attached Equipment is called a LAPAROSCOPY TOWER, a medical device that helps surgeons to see inside of your body in real time, without having to make large incisions.

This Equipment makes it easier for the surgeon to see your organs, including the liver, stomach and gallbladder.

A laparoscopy involves a small telescope being inserted through a small incision in the patient's belly button. As it moves along, the camera sends images to a video monitor. Hollow tubes called ports are placed inside the cuts to hold them open and allow the laparoscope to pass through easily.

It includes a camera system that captures images of the surgical site. The images are displayed on a monitor so the surgeon can see the patients anatomy in real time.

The recovery time for this treatment is usually two to three days.
