MAKE YOUR MARKETING GOAL A ‘SMART’ GOAL

S is for making sure your goals are specific.
M is measurable. Always always be able to measure your goals.
A is for achievable.
R is realistic
T is for time-based.

How it Works

Be specific. We want our marketing program leads to increase by X amount each quarter in 2018.

Measure it. You can use your past sales data as a baseline and monitor your quarterly sales conversions. You can capture how much traffic your website received, the qualified leads captured through your site and how many of those leads converted to sales.

Achievable. Saying you'll increase sales by 50% every quarter might not be achievable. Look at your past sales and other key performance indicators and set a target based on your previous performance.

Realistic. Figure out how you and your team will advance to reach a goal.

A time-based goal is your check system of the marketing campaign that never really reaches the mark. It's those time-based benchmarks that help you to know if you're on target to achieve what you set out to accomplish.

Everything you do in marketing, your strategies and the tactics you execute will be based on your goals.

Marketing is one of the single, most important things you can do to drive people to your store for the first time, or to drive them back to purchase again and again.
A lot of businesses struggle in retail because they're not marketing effectively.

As a retail business you need to build your own customer list and market to them on a regular basis to engage them and to build a relationship.

Here are the actions to take so we can set ourselves up for success.

First, it's important for you to be capturing information so you can market to your customers. So, so you can thank them for their first purchase, or you can send them something on their birthday you can send them a weekly newsletter about stuffs they care about.
More importantly, you can use this as a way to build a relationship with your customer.

Second, own your own customer list. The single, most valuable resource you have is your customer. Next to that, is your customer's contact information.
When you collect this, it allows you to do all sorts of interesting things with the information. For example, you reduce your advertising and marketing spend because you'll be able to specifically target those who have already transacted with you.

Third, segment your customer information. By understanding your customer and who they are, and different things about them, you can segment and market more effectively.

This is the best way to generate results from your internal marketing efforts.

As an example, if you sell to both adults and teenagers, it's important to be able to distinguish them. Because you can sell and market different products and services to each of them. It's important to identify what's important to specific customers.
By learning about your customers, their purchase habits, and their interests, you're better able to more specifically target messages directly at them.
This is a win for you because it allows you to take a product and know exactly who the buyers are.
This should be one of your most important areas of focus in your retail sales strategy.
By applying these marketing strategies, you'll meet your customer's needs and they'll feel like you're speaking to them personally.
