The Executive Chairman of Abua/Odual Local Government Area Of Rivers State, Hon. Vincent Reuben Obu has promised quality leadership and dividend of democracy to the good people of Abua/Odual local government area of Rivers State.

Hon. Vincent made the declaration during a familiarization meeting with Clan heads, paramount rulers and community development committees (CDC) at the Council Secretariat in Ayama - Abua Central.

He assured the people that his administration will provide constant electricity and spread developmental projects across all the communities in the local government area.

Hon. Vincent also reiterated his administration's readiness to revamp the moribund Abolga Filling Station in order to provide constant premium motor spirit (PMS) and as well reduced the cost of transportation for Abolga Mass Transit from two thousand naira ( #2000) to one thousand naira ( #1000) only.

Hon. Vincent also promised to build a World Class Hotel in the LGA and a 100 plot of land to be used for agricultural purposes in order to enhance food production in the local government.

He charged the traditional rulers to maintain peace and order in their localities and communities as development can only strive in a peaceful atmosphere.

Responding, the Oda Abuan of Abua kingdom, HRM King Kale Obughe thanked the chairman for his achievements within his few days in office and promised their commitment and support to the administration.

NGO DISTRIBUTES WRITING MATERIALS TO STUDENTS IN ANDONI LGA OF RIVERS STATE

The Creek Foundation has distributed learning materials to some public secondary schools in Rivers State, as part of her effort to enhance quality education.

The foundation in her first phase of donation visited Community Secondary School Inyong-orong, in Andoni local government area of Rivers State.

The distribution tagged “Welcome back to school,” was done by Barr. O. N Adienbo the Executive Director of the NGO.

Barr Adienbo said that the intervention was to assist less privileged students in public and low-income secondary schools with learning materials at the beginning of every school term.

In line with the United Nations convention on the Legal rights of every child's education, It is our belief as an organisation that every Nigerian child deserves quality education.

“We decided to give some students of the school, school supplies, such as exercise books, pens, pencils, sharpeners, and rulers,” she said.

Barr Adienbo said she was optimistic that the gesture would enhance the learning experience of the beneficiaries and lead to an increase in the completion and transition of quality education in the Niger Delta.

In his remarks, Mr. OGOGONTE A. HARRY, the principal of the school commended the organisation for the generosity and thoughtfulness toward the students.

Ogogonte said that a lot of students in the school were in need of the donated items, noting that the idea, was a welcome development.

Also speaking, Mr. Jonathan Anderson, the principal of the UBE section stated that the initiative would enhance the quality learning process among the students. However Applauded the Organization for her kind gesture, and instilling smiles on the faces of the students.

An indigen of the community Dr. MBU DICKSON MBU commended the organization for the initiative and called on the government to employ more teachers to the schools in rural areas in order to enhance learning.

He urged other NGOs to replicate such initiative, by providing school furniture, boreholes, and other basic infrastructure to schools.

INEC Nigeria ADHOC Staff, and staff of National Oil Spill Detection & Response Agency - NOSDRA MR. ARUMODUM JULIUS AKOI who was gruesomely murdered in Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State during the March 18th governorship elections has been buried in Port Harcourt Cemetery.

The deceased was shot by political thugs
at Otapha Clan in ward 7 while on election duty as adhoc staff.

The Nigeria Police Force has been called upon to unravel the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of MR. ARUMODUM.

The family also appealed to the Rivers state government and INEC Rivers to intervene to give Justice to the bereaved family.

ABUA-ODUAL YOUTHS ADVISED TO SHUN PIPELINE VANDALISM & ILLEGAL OIL BUNKERING:

Youths in Abua-Odual Local Government Area of Rivers state have been enjoined not to indulge in any act that will lead to the vandalisation of pipelines in the region as a way of preventing further degradation of the environment.

Pipeline Infrastructure Nig. Ltd cautioned youths in the LGA on the economic and environmental dangers of oil theft and petroleum pipelines vandalism.

The group made the disclosure in Owerewere Community, during a one-day community sensitization and awareness programme against pipeline vandalism, oil theft, sabotage, illegal bunkering and refining of petroleum products in the local government area.

The leader of the team, Mr. Oola Ikuphogh said the programme has become necessary in order to save the Niger Delta environment from further degradation, adding that lives of people in the region are always endangered by the activities of oil thieves.

He cautioned misguided youths of the area to shun the stealing of petroleum products, because it affects the nation’s economy and immediate environment of the region.

Also speaking, Mr. Melford Holay, lamented that the entire water body in the area has been polluted as a result of oil theft.

Melford called on traditional rulers and other institutions to guide their subjects against crimes that are inimical to societal growth.

OGIRI APPOINTED AS PROFESSOR OF ACCOUNTING

A former Director at the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Henry OGIRI, has been appointed a Professor of Accounting by Gregory University, Uturu.

Prof. Henry Ogiri is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

The former Director at the NDDC has published several articles in reputable local and international journals in the areas of financial accounting, CSR and sustainability reporting, taxation, and capital markets.

ONE DEAD AS FLOOD SACKS OWEREWERE COMMUNITY IN ABUA-ODUAL LGA IN RIVERS STATE:

Flood has sacked residents of Owerewere community and Emughan Clan in Abua-Odual local government areas of Rivers State.

The community which is located along the swkbanks of Orashi River and its tributaries have record one death case as over 100 buildings have been submerged by the flood, farms, health centre and schools covered by water.

Master Odepeli ThankGod Alias Radical for Jesus died as a result of the flood, he drown during a boat accident while going to uproot cassava with his parents.

The ravaging flood had forced residents of the communities, who are predominantly farmers, to harvest their cassava and other farm products prematurely.

Some of the affected communities include Owerewere, Aminigboko, Egunughan and Emesu all in Emughan Clan.

Speaking during a visit to the affected communities, the chief of Ugeni family, Chief Census Odumsi commiserated with victims of the flood disaster in the area.

Census lamented that several farmlands were washed away by the flood, adding that the ugly development is a threat to food security, in view of the agricultural potential of the affected communities.

He appealed to the relevant authorities to do all within their powers to address the issues by coming to the aid of the affected victims, adding that most of them lost their farmlands and households.

A Nigerian-born lecturer Uju Anya sparked global outrage after she took to her verified Twitter handle to mock late Queen Elizabeth II‘s health condition hours before her death.

In a series of now-deleted tweets, the Professor fired several damning shots at the British empire and the influential role played by the late Queen of Elizabeth II, hoping that her death would be painfully “excruciating.”

Uju accused Queen Elizabeth II of sponsoring the “genocide” that led to her family being displaced.

In another tweet, she referenced the alleged role of the British empire in supplying the Nigerian government with arms and ammunition during the nation’s civil war which spanned 1967 – 1970.

Her post attracted a flurry of reactions including criticisms and backlash.

Below are five things to know about Professor Uju Anya;

1, Dr, Uju Anya is a university professor at the Carnegie Mellon University, Department of Modern Languages who currently teaches and researches in applied linguistics, critical sociolinguistics, and critical discourse studies primarily examining race, gender, sexual, and social class identities in new language learning through the experiences of African American students.

2, Before working at Carnegie Mellon University, Anya served in other prestigious institutions like Penn State University, University of Southern California and Dartmouth College.

3, She graduated from Dartmouth College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Roman languages. Uju Anya earned her Masters degree in Brazilian studies from Brown University and did her Ph.D in applied linguistics from UCLA.

4, In 2021, the Nigerian Professor who had legally separated from her husband in 2017, announced on Twitter that she had just finalised her divorce with her husband, thus openly revealing that she is le***an. In a statement released on Twitter, the Professor wrote that her ex-husband knew of her sexuality before they got married, but she only thought at the time she was bisexual.

5, She is from both Nigerian/Trinidadian origin. Her parents met at the University in England. They got married and moved to Enugu Nigeria. However, after her father took in another wife, her mother took her young children and fled to America.
