Nigeria striker, Emmanuel Emenike
showed his furious side immediately
after Nigeria lost 2-3 to Congo in a 2015
Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier on
Saturday. The striker was surprisingly omitted from the starting
line-up as the Super Eagles began their match towards
successfully defending the Afcon crown won in
exhilarating fashion in 2013. After the final whistle at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar
Emenike ignored journalists in the mixed zoned. He then delivered a foul-mouthed tirade and smashed a
water bottle on the floor as he stormed into the
changing rooms. Most of the Nigerian players refused to speak to the
press after the game as they trudged on with long
faces to the changing rooms. Scorer of Nigeria’s second goal, Gbolahan Salami
however spoke very briefly about his strike and the
re sult. “I feel happy and sad. I am happy I scored but sad
that we lost, Nigeria coach, Stephen Keshi blamed his players for the
loss and accused them of show boating rather than go
for the kill after taking an early lead. “We didn't play our game. After the goal, we started
playing to the gallery and we didn't play with
aggression,” Keshi said. Nigeria must now dust themselves and improve
quickly ahead of their next game against South Africa
next Wednesday. The Super Eagles currently sit in third place of Group A
of 2015 Afcon qualifier with only a better goals
difference ensuring they sit ahead of bottom-placed
Sudan on the standings.
