Peter Obi Donates N10 Million to Support Healthcare Services at Ehime General Hospital, Imo State
Ehime Mbano, Imo State, June 1, 2026 — Former Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi has donated N10 million to support healthcare services at Ehime General Hospital in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, pledging more investment in health and education as pillars of national development.
Obi announced the donation during a visit to the hospital on Thursday, where he was received by the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. David Okechukwu Chikezie Onuoha, alongside members of the clergy and hospital management. He handed over the funds to hospital officials to support ongoing renovation and upgrade of medical facilities.
The Archbishop commended Obi for his “consistent commitment to supporting critical sectors such as health and education,” describing his interventions as “impactful and selfless”.
Ehime General Hospital, recently handed over to the Catholic Diocese for management, is currently undergoing renovation as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the area. Plans are also underway to establish a nursing school within the hospital complex to strengthen healthcare training and boost service delivery in the region.
The Diocese is expected to oversee the facility’s operations to ensure more efficient management and expand access to quality medical care for residents of Ehime Mbano and surrounding communities.
Speaking to stakeholders during the visit, Obi stressed that investment in healthcare and education remains central to national development. He said a healthy and educated population is “the foundation for economic growth and social progress” and “the bedrock of a productive society”.
