THE SILENT TAKEOVER: HOW FINTIRI CONSOLIDATED INFLUENCE WITHIN THE APC

The political landscape in Adamawa State continues to witness strategic realignments as two major gubernatorial aspirants have now stepped down from the governorship race to pursue senatorial ambitions within the All Progressives Congress.

The first was Chief Bilishan F. Tangwami who withdrew from the APC governorship race and subsequently secured the party’s ticket for the Adamawa South Senatorial District ahead of next year’s general election.

The latest is Comrade Mustapha Salihu, whose governorship aspiration had steadily gathered momentum across the state. Before stepping down, he had already built a formidable structure comprising technocrats, grassroots mobilizers, and loyal party stakeholders committed to his vision.

A respected party loyalist and long-serving Northeast Vice Chairman of the APC for nearly a decade, Comrade Mustapha Salihu has built a reputation around loyalty, political experience, and strong grassroots connection.

His decision to heed the party’s call and redirect his ambition towards the senatorial race has further strengthened the perception of him as a disciplined and committed party man.

For many observers, the move has not only demonstrated loyalty to the party but has also earned him admiration among stakeholders and supporters across the state.

On the other hand, the ongoing political developments appear to be a strategic victory for Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who joined the APC three months ago but has already shown remarkable political influence within the party structure.

Politically, the Governor appears to have played his cards effectively. So far, he has secured two senatorial tickets for his allies, with the possibility of a third should Comrade Mustapha Salihu emerge victorious in the primaries.

In the House of Representatives race, it is believed that he influenced the emergence of about five candidates out of the possible eight seats, while in the State House of Assembly contest, reports suggest that nearly eighteen out of twenty-five seats went to individuals aligned with him.

What makes these developments even more remarkable is that many of these outcomes were reportedly achieved through dialogue, negotiation, and strategic planning rather than open confrontation.

This has further reinforced Governor Fintiri’s growing reputation as one of the most strategic political actors in Adamawa State today.

There is a popular saying that “a tenant cannot take over the landlord’s house,” but despite being a relatively new entrant into the APC, the Governor has managed to successfully integrate and position many of his loyalists within the party structure.

And in politics, such outcomes rarely happen by chance; they are products of planning, influence, and political intelligence.

Fintiri is a Hero in the APC

By Zayyad I. Muhammad

When the PDP was collapsing under the weight of internal crises, uncertainty, and court cases , if Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri had decided to remain there or join one small political party , who among those criticizing him today would truly have stood with him? Who would have defended him when the battle became tougher? Probably none.

Many people speaking today conveniently forget the political reality of that period and today . Politics is not about emotions alone, it is about survival, strategy, leadership, and protecting the interests of one’s people. Fintiri understood this earlier than many others did.

The decision to join the APC was not just a smart political calculation by Governor Fintiri, it was also a major personal sacrifice aimed at rescuing his supporters, loyalists, political allies, appointees, and the wider political family that believed in him. At a time when many politicians were confused and stranded politically, Fintiri made a bold and decisive move instead of waiting to become politically isolated.

What is even more remarkable is the speed and impact of his political influence within the APC. Governor Fintiri joined the APC barely two months ago, yet his presence has completely reshaped the political landscape of the party, especially in Adamawa State. Show me any governor in recent political history who entered a ruling party within such a short period and immediately became this influential.

People must understand that it is extremely difficult for anyone to make such a huge impact after joining a ruling party that already has a sitting President, established power blocs, entrenched stakeholders, and an already existing political structure. In most cases, newcomers spend years struggling for relevance and acceptance within the system. Some governors who joined ruling parties before now could not even command this level of influence after several months or years.

There are politicians and even governors who struggled endlessly just to gain acceptance into the APC structure. Some fought hard merely for recognition and still could not secure meaningful political space within the party. Yet Fintiri entered and immediately established relevance, influence, and control because leadership, political value, and grassroots strength cannot be hidden. In fact, there is a state governor couldn’t even get the window to join the APC

Today, the Adamawa APC is significantly populated by Fintiri’s political structure, loyalists, supporters, and allies. From party officials to stakeholders and even the allocation of tickets, his influence is visible everywhere. That did not happen by accident. It happened because Fintiri moved with preparation, structure, negotiation, and political wisdom.

More importantly, he did not abandon his people during the transition. Many politicians change parties and leave their supporters stranded, frustrated, and politically homeless. Fintiri did the opposite. He carried his people along. He protected their interests. He ensured that his loyalists remained politically relevant. That is leadership.

People should also ask themselves an honest question: when Governor Fintiri promised that he would produce his successor, was that promise made while he was still in the PDP or now in the APC? The answer is very clear.

Even if some people refuse to look at these developments logically, fairness alone should compel them to admit the truth. Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has demonstrated courage, political intelligence, loyalty to his supporters, and strategic leadership at a very critical moment.

Leaders are judged by decisions taken during difficult times. And in this situation, Fintiri took a difficult decision that many others lacked the courage to take.

History will remember that while many politicians were confused and uncertain, Fintiri acted decisively, protected his structure, secured political relevance for his supporters, and emerged stronger.

That is why, whether critics like it or not, Governor Fintiri remains a hero to many and a leader whose political relevance continues to grow.

With Fintiri in the APC, he simply rescued everyone who would have otherwise been stranded.

Fintiri Emerges APC Adamawa North Senatorial Candidate Unopposed

Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has been declared the winner of the Adamawa North Senatorial Primary conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerging unopposed in the exercise.

The primary election, monitored by party officials and stakeholders, recorded no opposing aspirant cleared to contest the ticket, thereby returning the Governor as the party’s consensus candidate for the Adamawa North Senatorial District.

Officials who supervised the process confirmed that the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s internal guidelines and the provisions of the Electoral Act, noting that the absence of other eligible contenders automatically produced Fintiri as the APC flag bearer.

Political observers within the state describe the outcome as a significant development within the party’s structure in Adamawa North, pointing to what insiders term a “strategic consensus” ahead of the general elections.

Although detailed accreditation figures are yet to be formally released, stakeholders present at the venue described the process as orderly, peaceful, and transparent.

With this development, Governor Fintiri now stands as the APC candidate for Adamawa North in the forthcoming senatorial election.

Fintiri’s Name Firmly Written Into Adamawa’s Political History

In the evolving story of Adamawa’s governance and development, one name continues to echo across communities and political discussions —.

From his early political engagements to his leadership as Governor, Fintiri’s journey has become closely tied to the state’s modern administrative and infrastructural landscape. Across both urban and rural areas, many residents point to projects and reforms carried out during his tenure as defining moments in Adamawa’s recent history.

Road construction and expansion, improvements in schools and healthcare facilities, and administrative restructuring are frequently cited by observers as hallmarks of this period. Supporters describe his leadership style as visible and people-centered, while critics acknowledge that his time in office has undeniably shaped public discourse around governance in the state.

Political analysts note that beyond policies and projects, Fintiri’s era has influenced how governance is experienced and discussed by citizens, creating a benchmark against which future administrations may be measured.

As Adamawa looks ahead, conversations about development, leadership, and continuity often return to one reference point — the Fintiri years.

In the collective memory of the people, the name Fintiri now occupies a lasting space in Adamawa’s political narrative.
