What if some of biology’s most influential systems operate through a language we can barely read?

Heparan sulfate is a complex sugar chain found on almost every cell in the body. By guiding how proteins interact, it plays a key role in processes ranging from development and repair to immunity and disease.

HS Sequencing is an ambitious European research initiative led by Utrecht University that’s working to decode this hidden biological language – opening new possibilities for understanding conditions such as neurodegeneration, including Parkinson’s disease.

Working in close collaboration with leading researchers, we translated this highly specialised science into a clear, compelling visual story – giving the consortium a shared narrative and a recognisable face that can travel beyond the lab.

The result is a film that makes complex analytical chemistry understandable, without losing scientific depth – setting a foundation for future communication as the research evolves.
