Designing a scalable ToT framework for sexual and reproductive health
We’re proud to share that Proportion Global has been selected to partner with Tiko on the design of a new Training of Trainers framework for sexual and reproductive health.

Tiko works with a diverse ecosystem of community-based organisations, mobilisers, health providers and retailers to reach young people with high-quality sexual and reproductive health information and services. As their footprint grows across countries, the challenge became how to scale training without losing quality, consistency or local relevance.

Together, we are designing a ToT framework that balances structure with flexibility. One that enables CBOs to become training hubs, while ensuring learning remains youth-centred, behaviour-focused and measurable. The framework blends human-centred design, adult learning principles and digital tools to support localisation, continuous learning and quality assurance across contexts.

What excites us most is that this approach is not just about cascading content. It is about strengthening systems, building local ownership, and creating feedback loops that allow training to evolve alongside the realities young people face.

We’re grateful to the Tiko team for their trust and partnership, and we’re excited to get started on this collaboration.

If you’re an organisation looking to scale sexual and reproductive health programming with integrity, or a human-centred designer passionate about health, youth and systems change, we’d love to connect.

How might we collaborate to enable fast charging models for EV bikes in East Africa?

Proportion Global and ROAM Electric held a creative workshop with e-mobility stakeholders to shape the future of electric two-wheelers in East Africa to come up with ideas on how to enable fast charging models for EV bikes in East Africa.

Proportion Global first presented the findings from the qualitative research among 50+ bike riders and 13 potential charging operators. Then, through guided steps, we facilitated lively discussions and creative sessions, engaging ROAM Electric, OEMs, financiers, MSMEs, and ecosystem players to dive deeper into Charging-as-a-Service (CaaS) and how to deal with the trade-offs between battery-swapping models and the deployment of fast-charging infrastructure for electric motorcycles. The participants identified key friction points, aligned incentives, and designed solutions that optimise usability, adoption, and operational efficiency. In this context, fast charging, when implemented with appropriate technical and commercial guardrails, has emerged as a high-impact, rider-centric alternative.

What stood out most was the shared understanding that no single actor can solve this on their own. If done right, fast charging is not just an infrastructure upgrade. It is a lever for income stability, operational resilience, and commercial sustainability in Africa’s electric two-wheeler transition.

Do you want to know more? Then join the public webinar on January 28th. Registration starts on January 5th. Stay tuned.

We are grateful to everyone who leaned into the complexity of the conversation. The opportunity is validated, and so is the work ahead! Kudos to British International Investments (BII) for investing in ROAM and funding Proportion Global for providing support to ROAM and the EV ecosystem in Kenya!

How do you turn a group of youth with smartphones into powerful storytellers?

At Proportion, we paired creativity with Human-Centered Design tools to guide the learning journey. Two standouts:
Empathy Mapping – Helped us deeply understand each participant’s context, needs, and capabilities before training even began.
Storyboarding – Gave youth the skills to visualize and plan their stories before filming, turning abstract ideas into compelling narratives.

By grounding our training in tools like these, we didn’t just build skills, we built confidence, collaboration, and clarity.

Have you used empathy maps or storyboards in your own projects? Tell us in the comments!

When 15 young creatives from Ghana, Kenya, and Uganda joined the Youth Videographers Project, many had never used their phones for more than selfies or chats. Six months later, they were producing powerful, ethical, community-rooted video stories.

As participant Kiboneka Jonathan shared:

“I learned how to capture impactful footage, tell compelling stories, and most importantly, ask for consent. Just because someone’s in front of your camera doesn’t mean you press record.”

This isn’t just about tech skills. It’s about responsibility, perspective, and the power of youth-led storytelling to shift narratives and inspire change.
