Whenever I get the chance, I like to visit Faro to just walk around town. The pace is slow, the light is incredible, and modernist apartment buildings appear around every corner.

This new drawing is of a building on Rua de São Luís. I haven’t been able to trace the architect, though it fits perfectly within the language of Faro’s postwar housing, much of which was shaped by Manuel Gomes da Costa. Breezeblock balconies, built-in planters, perforated facades, strong shadows, and colors that vibrate in the sun.

The other drawings in this series are of works by Gomes da Costa, including the incredible Casa Alfredo Gago Rosa.

If you ever get the chance, do visit Faro. The architecture is extraordinary.

More than a century after the Bauhaus school opened in 1919, its influence is still visible in architecture, interiors, furniture, typography, and the way we think about modern living. Not as a style to copy exactly, but as a reminder that good design should be simple, useful, and visually powerful at the same time.

De Chirico’s spaces have always fascinated me. Not because they are realistic, but because they’re almost like stage sets built from fragments: arcades, towers, plazas, shadows.

What interests me as well is how close this gets to the works by Aldo Rossi and Giorgio Grassi. That same reduction, the same insistence on type over expression. Architecture as a memory of itself. Slightly detached, but still precise.

Where others focused on function and systems, Luis Barragán (1902–1988) focused on atmosphere. Solid walls, quiet courtyards, carefully framed views, and those unmistakable colors.

The result feels calm, almost introspective, but very precise at the same time.

His influence is still visible today, especially in architecture that aims for minimalism without losing warmth.

These three prints are available through my website.

In many modernist buildings stairs are more than just a means for getting from one level to the next. They become the main element by structuring the space, directing the eye and setting the tone.

The drawings that I make are not exact representations. They are reductions. I remove context and secondary detail to focus on structure, proportion, and the relationship between openings and solid planes.

Shadows are constructed as geometry, reinforcing form instead of atmosphere.

The buildings I draw come from different places and periods, but I treat them equally. By removing context and material specificity, they exist in the same abstract register, allowing me to focus on composition.

The process is digital, but entirely manual. I place lines one by one, adjust them, and leave them visible. So there is always a balance between precision and the trace of making.

At the same time, the drawings are not purely analytical.
I make them to be looked at. To hold together as images.

Clarity, balance and rhythm are not only structural qualities, but visual ones.

Across the work, my aim is to reduce architecture to the relationships that make it legible, and in doing so, to create something that is simply pleasing to the eye.
