Afgelopen zomer vlogen wij all the way to New York om op een school in the Bronx een video te maken over de impact van het lesprogramma ‘Heart for Art’. Deze samenwerking tussen het Van Gogh Museum en DHL brengt replica’s van kunstwerken en lespakketten wereldwijd bij kinderen voor wie kunstonderwijs niet vanzelfsprekend is.
We vroegen leerlingen Michael en Ismael en juf 'miss Amber’ een brief te schrijven aan Van Gogh alsof hij nog leeft, om hun ervaring op intieme wijze met ons te delen. In de video vertellen ze hoe het leven en werk van Van Gogh hen inspireert en zoeken ze samen naar de raakvlakken met hun eigen leven. Een verhaal over inspiratie en creativiteit - met mooie woorden van miss Amber om voor altijd te onthouden: “It’s a beautiful thing to be yourself."

Last summer we travelled all the way to New York to make a video about the impact of the ‘Heart for Art’ school program at a school in the Bronx. This collaboration between the Van Gogh Museum and DHL brings replicas of art works and educational material to children worldwide for whom art education is not self-evident.
We asked students Michael and Ismael and their teacher ‘Miss Amber’ to write a letter to Van Gogh as if he were still alive. They share their experience in an intimate way, revealing how Van Gogh inspires them while looking for the similarities between their lives and his. The video became a story of inspiration and creativity – with words from miss Amber to always keep in mind: ‘It’s a beautiful thing to be yourself’.
