Studio Daniel Maarleveld

Studio Daniel Maarleveld I am a graphic designer based in Amsterdam. Making generated design based on natural or mathematical principles.

Various monsters which one do you prefer.

An experiment I made earlier but now remixed with cells/eyes. I quite enjoy this version of the shapes.

Made with Cavalry and After Effects.app

LOOP animated typeface. Morphing between pattern, creature and letterform.

I like how the eyes now loop as if cells are dividing.

A remix of an earlier work. Made with Cavalry and After Effects.

I rebuilt and remastered the number 3 a Paper.js experiments I originally made in 2018, finally in a resolution that actually does them justice.

While revisiting them, I ended up making a few new ones too.
Interesting how certain visual systems keep pulling you back.

Built with Paper.js / JavaScript.

Generative type tool built in p5.js
Interactive gradient system inspired by oil drifting on water.

299.792.458 meters per second is the speed of light

The second slide shows the interface with some bigger numbers.
I’ve been building many generative typography tools and visual systems lately, exploring blur, interference, edge detection.

Il build this script a year ago and finally had time to post it.
I used ChatGPT while developing the code as a way to push myself into less familiar technical directions.

Generative portrait tool built in p5.js

Images reconstructed, remixed through interaction
Interactive system that reshapes portraits based on input, noise and movement.

Slideshow with 4 videos, 4 stills.

I’ve been building a lot of p5.js experiments lately but didn’t have the time to edit and post them. Finally catching up and pushing things out. I used ChatGPT to help write parts of the code.Mainly to push into directions I wouldn’t naturally take.

Liquid Orbit
I made this animation a while ago in .app and completely forgot to post it. I was experimenting with animations that resemble wood-like structures. Here that experiment turns into an impossible form, and acts almost like a lava lamp. I added a few variations.

I am not always sure when an animation is finished. This year I want to post things faster, otherwise everything just stays on the shelf, :).

Generated glass letter A, swipe to see the process 👉

Amorphous Alphabet

In collaboration with Celine de Waal Malefijt, we explored how motion can be captured in glass. This letter was generated using . Then we the laser cut the generated form in wood, to created a negative plaster mould that was used to cast the glass.

Together, we research glass as a carrier for typography. My practice starts in the digital world of generative and kinetic type, while Celine works with the tactile and unpredictable nature of glass. The resulting objects combine both approaches, where digital processes and traditional glass techniques come together to form a hybrid visual language that captures motion in a solid material.

Ghost in the Shell, made in

4 variations. Which one do you prefer?

What if a cyber brain could generate its own ghost?
What if a synthetic system could become conscious?

Lately I’ve been building a lot of p5.js tools without posting much. This is an update, now with magnetic interaction and switchable text fragments from Ghost in the Shell.

The letters behave like material. They attract, deform and respond to interaction.

The code was developed over time with help from ChatGPT.
