Nobody is Free Until Everybody’s Free

For The Black Archives, we designed a publication that goes beyond the exhibition walls of Museumnacht. Inspired by the newspapers of activist movements like the Black Panthers, it’s a format that carries history while making space for contemporary voices.

By choosing print, we connect the legacy of underground communication with today’s need for solidarity and action. The publication, with all illustrations created by our studio, was designed to be taken home—a lasting reminder that conversations on equality and justice don’t end at the exhibition.

A Gesture.

Gestures are universal movements that everyone understands, even though sometimes it's interpreted differently depending on one’s culture and background.

This book showcases the work of 180 graduates from the University of the Arts Utrecht that have each made a gesture in their own way. Their gestures are explored through themes of Approach, Arouse, Merge, Question and Revive. These themes allow for a categorisation based on stories, rather than studies.

The book contains a total of 310 pages and is printed using offset technique. It's wrapped in a screen-printed sleeve complimented by a green elastic-band that holds everything in place.

Recent played a roll in the development, design and oversight of the production.
