Meet Matthijs, our Usability Research Intern!

So Matthijs, who are you?
“I'm Matthijs, 26 years old and I live in Amsterdam. I'm about to finish my master's degree in Applied Cognitive Psychology at the Universiteit Utrecht. Before working at Mediamatic, I was researching the effects of color and sound on people at TNO. I love messing around with computers and turning interesting ideas into a website. I also enjoy playing guitar and hiking (especially in Norway). ”

What do you do at Mediamatic?
“For my usability research I'm developing a leaderboard system which keeps track of user's contributions to the website. Users can get ranked according to their activity and the number of contributions they make, for example. The idea: users will be able to see how well they're doing compared to others, giving a competitive edge to contributing information to the website. ”

Since you lived in Norway, you must like Nordic sweaters. What’s your favorite figure on Nordic sweaters?
“Hmm, I would have to say mooses, because they’re so iconic. They also remind me of my time in Norway, because I saw a few of them over there.”

Meet Kees, our Usability Research Intern!

So Kees, who are you?
“Well, I’m Kees and I’m 25 years old. I was born in Roosendaal, but currently live in Amsterdam. I like Amsterdam, but I do miss the ‘gezelligheid’ of Brabant, especially carnaval. I’ve got my master degree in Business Administration and I’m currently studying Psychology. In my spare time I enjoy sailing and I’ve also recently started playing hockey (again). Before I came to Mediamatic I helped blind and visually impaired people to use their computers as effective as possible.”

What do you do at Mediamatic?
“I do Usability Research, which means I look at the goals and desires of the organization for their website. After that, I try to find out how those wishes can be best translated to the users of the website. In other words: I try to make sure the website gets used for the purposes -and in the way- it was built for. ”

Since you say you miss carnaval, you must like dressing up. What is the weirdest costume you ever wore?
“I’m actually not the biggest fan of dressing up, but I’ll do it when I have to. I only have one costume: a pinguin suit. I wear it to all events that require me to dress up.”
