No-Rocket

No-Rocket Francesco Zorzi is an Italian visual designer and illustrator working and living in Amsterdam.

Graduated with a MA in Product Design
at the Politecnico School of Design in Milan, Francesco moved to The Netherlands in 2012 to work for the Italian designers duo Formafantasma. In 2015 he launched NO-ROCKET, a multidisciplinary creative studio distinguished by a strong ’hands-on’ imprint, constantly on the edge between objects and images, design and illustration. NO-ROCKET finds inspiration in

the intersections between disciplines, experimenting with graphic design, illustration and materials as ‘tools’ for visual storytelling. NO-ROCKET prefers pencils to keyboards, paint to colour palettes, paper and scissors to copy-paste.

Finally a sneak peak of what’s been cooking in the last few months at Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam!

This is a preview of the 1st illustration I did for Wieden + Kennedy for Simplement Extra, the new campaign for Corona France 🇫🇷 If you’re in France these days, walking the streets or taking the metro, you will probably bump into these textured beauties, some of the largest artworks I’ve ever realized so far.

Shout out to the great creative direction of and the dreamteam who made all this possible!

This weekend I would like to invite you to NDSM OPEN 2017:

It's a three-day, multidisciplinairy event in the NDSM-broedplaats at the NDSM-wharf in Amsterdam Noord,
and the celebration of ten-year anniversary of the NDSM Art City.

No-Rocket has the studio based inside the NDSM warehouse, so NDSM OPEN is the perfect occasion for participate with
something beautiful and something meaningful: during these next days I will present another progression of the MACULA project, a project I'm working on to bring awareness on Macular Degeneration and the Visual Hallucinations associated with this common degenerating disease. I will be working on MACULA #1 a large painting about Visual Hallucination and the mechanism of coping with this complex visual distortions.

If you are curious to see the painting live or you want to discuss more about the project, come by NDSM this weekend or drop a line at [email protected]

Let me know if you are passing by, I hope to see many of you!

FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS INSTEAD OF THE LINE.
A straight line won’t necessarily take you in the direction you need to go: your instincts, on the other hand, will always direct your faithfully. By all means choose a line, but interpret it, see it from different perspectives and directions, that’ll create a far more interesting pattern to follow. SEIZE THE MOMENT because THE TIME IS NOW, so stop waiting for somebody to tell you what to do, take and informed risk and start doing it: how much do you actually have to lose?
CREATE CHANGE: DESIGN DIFFERENTLY. A new dynamism is bubbling in the creative community. With design you can change everything, anything, nothing. Change is very necessary right now, be part of it. LEARN THE RULES, THEN PLAY THE GAME just as well as the others. There are those who do it, and faster, and get where they want to go before you do, but learn from them then do it better yourself. The design industry is tough, study the system and the rules, then you can then play it to your advantage. It’ll never be straightforward, but it’s about enjoying the roll of the dice. BE OPEN TO POSSIBILITY - ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN, IF YOU LET IT. But you do have to let go of what you know, what you’ve done before - BEING SCARED IN NOT AS TERRIFYING AS IT MIGHT SEEM - and take a step forward, even if you’re unsure of where you’re going or what’s going to unfold.
ALWAYS STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN. Inspiration and advice comes in the most unlikely of places, if you don’t stop & look, you might miss it. DON’T EXPECT THINGS TO HAPPEN THE WAY YOU THINK THEY WILL HAPPEN, and don’t be scared when that does happen! Sometimes THE PROCESS IS EVERYTHING: how you design is as important as the design outcome itself so document and value each element properly. GOD IS IN THE DETAILS (Mies Van Der Rohe) it’s the little things that you do / say / design / think / write / record - that may seem unimportant and insignificant - that are the most important. The real power in good design, is in its details. SO WHAT. Really, so what if you screw it up, so what if you have to start again, so what if you don’t get it right the first time, so what if nobody else believes you’re doing it right, so what if you’re not sure you’re doing it right, so what if it’s not right, so what if it takes twice as long to figure it out and get it right, so what is the worst that can happen? IF YOU DON’T TRY, YOU’LL NEVER KNOW. IF YOU DON’T ASK, YOU’LL NEVER GET. From everything you do, from all those around you, wherever you go and whatever you see or hear, please ALWAY LEARN. Remember that you have a choice, you can screw up, you play safe or you can AIM HIGH AND HIT HARD. Maybe you won’t get what you were aiming for, but you’ll still get more than you would have done by only looking at the ground. YOU MUST EMBRACE RISK, if you LOVE WHAT YOU DO, because that comes across in your work, that passion sells you as a designer and your designs. RESPECT those around you, what they do, and what they say is always valuable. DO SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING, LET’S SEE SOMETHING.

In the last few months I've been honored to follow the exhibition design and the visual communication of the exhibition on the ceramic works of Ettore Sottsass for its 100 year birthday:
Celebrating Ceramics - 100 jaar Ettore Sottsass.
It meant a lot to me. Stedelijk Museum s'Hertogenbosh gave the freedom to dive into the history of Sottsass, the chance of getting to know his writings and his thoughts, and the possibility of displaying somehow
'Ettore' as a human being alongside the work of 'Sottsass' the architect.
Months discovering his phylosophy on life and design, his spiritual side, his contradictions, his past, his encounters, his travels, his beliefs, his dreams and his fears..
It reminded me that behind the image of one of the most famous and known designers, his colourful objects and his ceramics, there's the story of the man 'Ettore' Sottsass.

Tomorrow I will give a lecture at the open day of United POP Academy - Amsterdam.

ON THERMAL PAPER will be the description of a 5-years long research
on a material, but also the story of the development of a 'method', which is always interconnected with a 'personal' development.-

If you're in Amsrerdam just pass by at 3 pm!
